When you're buying from a store abroad they now have to charge VAT on the sale. Does that mean there will be no duty to pay on the item when it gets to the UK or do they take you from both ends on imports now?
Pondering importing a Junkfood Snackbox Micro controller but man that will be super expensive if its VAT+customs!
Anyone know how import charges work now?

Re: Anyone know how import charges work now?
The VAT should be factored into the sale as the business will have to add VAT onto all their sales made to UK customers. There'll only be duty due on it if it's worth over £135 and it falls within a commodity code which has a duty rate, which typically leads to your post office holding onto it for a while until you go down and fork out for it.
Sometimes a seller won't add the VAT on (or add enough) and the extra you have to pay will be added on when they calculate the duty. I wouldn't have thought there'd be any duty on a controller accessory like that though so you'll just have to foot the 20% VAT bill.

Interesting, cheers. There’s a chap in England who makes ones, not quite so tiny as the Snackbox but I might just go with him to save any headache.
