The Centre Parcs thing was pretty funny because all holiday-makers needed to do was refuse to leave, and then what were the company going to do about it? There are hundreds of holiday homes on each of those sites so they'd need a hell of a lot more security than they likely have. It'd take them the whole day to get people out, and the optics of paying customers being dragged out would be atrocious. The police aren't going to forcibly remove hundreds of people who would be entitled to return the next day. And then there's the fact that it really should have been Centre Parcs' responsibility to find alternative accommodation for the guests getting kicked out. It was a thoroughly stupid move to make and regardless of whether they're backtracking now, the damage is done. They'll presumably still have to be refunding customers at least partially for the day as I would think that all of the facilities on site will be closed, and people aren't going to be happy to have a holiday park with nothing to do in it.

But yes, the corporate support is nothing more than PR. There's already a bank holiday in place (and I'm still waiting to see if I get the day back as I'm still on annual leave on Monday) for the workers, and if my local supermarket being closed on the day is anything to go by, it's full-on Christmas day rules - businesses probably aren't going to be opening.

Considering there could be upwards of a million people in the queue, many of whom will have no idea what they're getting into and will stubbornly ignore their health for the sake of trudging round a box, there will likely be serious medical incidents or even deaths. Logistically the whole thing sounds like a total nightmare.

The BBC are going to be streaming the queen laying in state from 5pm today, so you can watch how knackered everybody who makes it is.

Over 200,000 people have died from Covid thanks largely to government negligence now. When are we going to get a day of mourning bank holiday to commemorate all those unnecessary extra deaths?

It's almost pretty good. It's like they got the face right, but then stuck it on the skull of a 96-year old body builder.

I think it looks like two people started painting it simultaneously from either side, then at the end met in the middle and were like 'huh. Close enough.'

Maybe they should call the funeral off out of respect to the queen.

It's what she would have wanted.

Centre Parcs were going to kick people out of their parks on Monday until a public backlash caused them to backtrack.
To an extent, apparently they're still banning people from leaving their accommodation on Monday, which is absurd. Good luck enforcing that.

One of the best comments on twitter about it: "Good luck removing guests from the parks. You've trained them in archery, shooting, swimming, canoeing and swinging through the trees like apes. You've basically got 5 village-loads of ninjas to clear out."

I find the live footage of the Lie In State kinda smoothing. The fact its 24 hours till Monday is bizarre.

Makes me want to see live footage of museums or art galleries. Its like moving wallpaper

Have to give credit to the administration of all this. It is highly impressive.

The Queue is the most ridiculously British thing I've seen in a long time.

I cannot fathom having that much free time, and choosing to spend it in a fucking queue. Absolute insanity.

I wonder how many want to be there as opposed to those who want to tell their friends they did it
