When it looks like you might lose, change the rules.

Re: Trump
Yeah, seemingly his campaign has been hoping for a boost to the economy, but it's pretty dire. I guess he just wants more time to make himself look better, but it's a fairly frightening precedent to set, delaying an election for political gain. It's likely that the president can't delay an election however, because why would you put that power in the hands of the people it would most benefit?
Re: Trump
The orange dolt-tard doesn't realise that mail in voting enables the elderly who are more likely to vote Republican.....but, really, there is little scope for fraud with the mail-in ballot, he and his flunkies have used it often in the past ffs. Get that Edwin out of office, he's a shit stain on American history.

Re: Trump
Yeah, the reasoning is complete bullshit as there's barely any evidence of election fraud due to mail-in votes. It's arguably more likely with in-person voting. I also find it hilarious that one of the reasons being given is that mail-in voting increases the likelihood of foreign governments tampering with the election; he seemed perfectly happy when it helped him last time.
Re: Trump
Accusing others of something you're guilty of is a classic Trump move.

Re: Trump
I believe delaying an election is the classic first step towards a dictatorship. His bestie Putin pulled that when he came to power 20 odd years ago.
Mail in voting also allows people whose polling stations you've rezoned into inconvenient areas a better chance to vote, like the poor bastards most effected by his incompetent handling of covid.

Re: Trump
The Constitution says, I believe, that the election will happen on the X week of Y four years after the last one, etc. There's more to it than just calling a timeout.
One thing to note with postal votes is that for people legitimately using them (ie: the elderly mentioned), Zero Hour for grabbing votes then isn't on November Whatever-the-day, it's sometime in mid-October to ensure that they arrive on time. That's something they're probably thinking about in buying time.
Also, you're not going to hear the end of it if fucktard loses. Remember the rumour that his plan all along was to lose and then take that angry fanbase to a Trump TV network or similar? Imagine the worst of Fox but hosted by an ex-President who says you got cheated, interspersed with ads for Trump consumables.
Depressin', ain't it.

Re: Trump
It's a bit more nuanced than that. He can cancel the election, but unless he wins a presidential election again he ceases to be President on the 20th of January 2021. Following the line of succession, as Mike Pence will also cease to be the Vice President it will pass to the Leader of the House which would in all likelihood be Nancy Pelosi (he can cancel the presidential election, but not elections for the House or Senate as they are managed by the respective states).
Re: Trump
He doesn't get a say anyway, Congress would have to vote on it, which they absolutely will not. Even the Civil War vote went ahead on time ffs.
There is a suggestion that this is a diversion away from the 'rona and GDP numbers announced today, which are far from where Cheeto would like....

Re: Trump
3 things may happen
- he will lose and will be forced to leave kicking and screaming
- he will lose and refuse to leave inciting riots and possible civil strife and constitutional crises
- he will win
Whatever happens history will not forget him.

Fox news: Shameful Obama! How disrespectful to give a speech about civil rights at the funeral of a chap that dedicated his life to civil rights!

Re: Trump
This article connects many of the dots with regards to how Trump may win, what he's doing to achieve that and what that would mean. It could be seen as hyperbolic, but too much of it seems soberingly plausible.
