One of the few voices in my life that can bring me to tears with its power, feeling and authenticity. What a big hole she will leave, but what a legacy.

Kofi Annan former UN secretary general died at 80. The sad thing is he seemed to have grown very disillusioned in the past double of years with the way the world is going.

He should have been more disillusioned with the bloated useless organisation he was in charge of. I used to think a lot of the UN and I suppose at the very highest levels it has a good effect. But at the business end it is a useless entity that barely functions.

Fair point mate, that old UNinvolved joke is pretty accurate.

He was quite a good bloke by all accounts reading up on him so this is just sad to see.

I remember his attempt at president some years ago and thinking he was another Washington Hawk type rattling the war sabre. I think he mellowed in years since.

He was definitely a cantankerous, egotistical, old git and I definitely disagree with most of his positions (and he did pick Sarah Palin as a running mate FFS) but as US politicians go he was one of the more decent ones, and he certainly would have made a better president than Bush or Trump. And he did save Obamacare in a wonderful Fuck You to Trump.

Yeah he was generally well-respected by all sides from what I recall.

He must have been exasperated seeing Trump get in.

Worth noting he requested Bush and Obama to deliver eulogies but then stopped Trump from attending.
