Microplastics are one of those things where you have to wonder why nobody considered they'd be a problem. We used to put tiny plastic beads in shower gel for goodness sakes, so we were tipping billions of tiny pieces of non-degradable plastic into the water supply.

Our reliance on petrochemicals will be our end. Just about everything of modern life requires it at some point, and it has enabled population growth and an existence so unnatural that sustaining it without oil is almost an impossible challenge. We were created in a heaven and we have turned it into hell. The further we move from nature, the closer we move to our doom.

Not sure I agree. Nature is brutal and uncaring on both a macro and micro scale. With regards to global warming we've screwed things up for ourselves, but human life before the industrial era was harsh at the best of times, and for non-human life it's always been a never-ending struggle to survive against predators, starvation and all the other ways in which nature can ruin your day. What I mean (using your metaphor) is that by industrialising we created our own heaven in the midst of hell, but it was only ever going to be temporary.

On the lifespan of the Earth, we're a blink - an illness which has knocked it for six, but the Earth will bounce back at our expense. We deserve everything we've done to ourselves.

I told my ex, back around 2016, that I really didn't want to drink ten f'ing bottles of water a day, because I can taste the plastic in it and I'm sure we're ingesting it (she was the doc I was living with in Arizona for a while, such a harpy). She was on a well water system, in the middle of nowhere, and that water tasted amazing, and is probably one of the most pure sources in my stupid country. This microplastics news the last couple years hasn't surprised me in the least. It's just another way we're destroying the environment, and ourselves.

Don't know why they bothered with a statue, should have just installed a bronze memorial urinal and left it there. Rancid woman, next they will be casting fucking Boris as a statue.

Is there any PM in our lifetime that even slightly deserves a statue?
