Ye Olde English Talking About The Weather Thread
It's supposed to be summer, being late August and all, but today it feels like October is drawing to an end. We turned the central heating on for the first time in ages today. This is Scotland, though, and we're not exactly known for our Mediterranean clime...
How is it for the rest of you?

Sunny but bearable now, after that awful heat wave we had. I myself prefer the cooler, greyer, rainy weather anyway. ¬_¬

Yes, it's been quite pleasant here (south of England). Couple of days or rain in recent weeks, but the garden needed those anyway (or would have if it hadn't been hidden under 2 tonnes of timber), otherwise still quite warm but not insane like it was in June/July.

I think it's perfect when it only gets to about 22/23C. That said, today's max here is 16...

12 degrees here. I am wearing a sweater for the first time since March I think.

It's pleasantly mild and breezy here in Lancaster, with occasional rain (sadly no chilli con carne or sparkling champagne). I'd prefer freezing cold weather, but considering the godawful blazing heat we've endured this summer I'm revelling in being able to sleep comfortably again.
Re: Ye Olde English Complaining About The Weather Thread
I find the problem in the UK is the humidity. Although there were blazing hot days, which were uncomfortable, a lot of the time the temperature was only 22C but the extreme humidity made it feel like 32C+. If it was a dry heat I could stand it a lot more.
I prefer milder summers with occasional sunny days.

Sounds nice; here it was literally 32+ and felt about 40!

This. The thermostat in our house reached numbers I didn't realise it was capable of.

I have family up in Orkney that I visit every year. They were complaining about how hot it was when it got up to 19c.
I think mainland north Scotland is mostly mild all year round, but Orkney has very strong winds at any given time. When I went this Easter I couldn't open the car door at one point because the wind was that brutal.

The heating doesn't go on until the clocks go back. At the earliest!Stormbringer wrote: ↑Fri Aug 24, 2018 6:12 amIt's supposed to be summer, being late August and all, but today it feels like October is drawing to an end. Also Scotland, although I'm sure I'm exhibiting some of that sweet national stereotyping. If its cold just pop another kilt on or at the bare minimum a see you jimmy hat.

That's all very well for you natives, but us English expats generally don't do that. ¬_¬

The weather is now fantastic. Cold and rainy and no longer sweltering like a pig on a roast pit

Well, Saturday seemed to return to summer again here inEdinburgh. Actually turned out to be quite nice! Bright and sunny, but not too hot.
I have the early signs of a cold, though, so at least there's that to complain about. ¬_¬
