And in typical fashion, I now won't be available for the rest of the week. Got some lovely 1am finishes coming up tomorrow and Thursday. #-o

I should be fine for any evening this week. Also, if anyone wants to get the digital version of the player's handbook, I have a 50% off voucher - first come, first serve.

What does it come to with the discount?

Also, any evening should be fine for me also.

With the discount it should be £12.42 ($15).

Is it this one:

Asking mainly as for Xmas my wife bought me the DM Guide book (which I have yet to look at  ), however this looks like it would be a pretty essential companion to that, when creating a campaign?

If that's the one, and you think it would be a worthy addition to the one I've got, then I'd pay that.

That's the badger - while it's aimed at players, it's pretty essential if you want to run games as it details how to actually play the game (along with details of races, classes, equipment, spells, etc). I'll DM you the code when I get home. :)

The DM's guide is a great read even you don't intend to run games - I find it a useful ideas generator.

Cool cheers. :)

Yeah, it's more that the girls are still a bit young (6 & 8) for a more detailed campaign, so so far it's mostly been me making stuff up on the fly around a fairly simple scenario. To give you an idea of where the youngest is at, for her character she insisted on playing a wolf cub, and steadfastly refused any suggestions for ways it could have the powers of speech ('maybe it's a magic wolf?' 'no.') She communicates with the other players solely through yips and barks, and routinely runs off in the undergrowth when my eldest gets frustrated with this and shouts at her

For the second 'campaign', I made a scenario whereby they found an ancient temple with a variety of puzzles and traps to get through (which I was quite pleased with), the ultimate prize at the end of which was a magic amulet that could transform a wolf into a humanoid that could talk, cast spells etc, all with the aim of finding a way to get her more involved. She promptly threw it away

It's utter chaos most of the time, which is why I've not tried putting anything too rigid or 'correct' into place, but I will do all that at some point when they're a bit older.

Our favourite part of our games so far was in the first one when the wolf pup and my eldest's nature-loving druid came across a couple of hunters in a forest. Nowhere did I state they were hostile, however they both as a first course of action charged in to attack, the wolf cub then rolled a natural-20 for her biting attack on one of the hunter's ankles which ended up being her ripping his leg off :o. They were both laughing and cheering and it resolved into a frightening bloodbath when another 20 was rolled, at which point my wife walked into the room and was utterly horrified

That sounds amazing.

You might be interested in this series that's recently been released (or at least 2 of the 4 books have been released to date):

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Warriors-Weapo ... 132&sr=8-1

I got the first two with an eye to getting my nieces more interested in D&D, and they're really nice books. There are no rules detailed in them at all - it's all flavour text and pictures to introduce children to adventuring concepts. I like the idea that for kids under 10, the rules really aren't necessary at all to play an adventure. All you really need is a DM to rule on what is and isn't fair or possible, maybe with some dice rolls to add an element of luck.

I can do most days this week, but my preference would be for wednesday or thursday. I can do tuesday if there's no other chance of getting a game in this week, but I'd have to rearrange some stuff that I'd prefer not to.
