The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
Cool.
So that's a 24 on the deception (12+12), and for the stealth I rolled a 3 and a nat 20 (plus modifier of 14 )

34 stealth at level 11? Jeez.
That's like Tom Cruise catching his bead of sweat level sneakiness.

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
Thanks to the Talent I took at the last level up, I effectively have a minimum stealth roll of 24

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
It all goes exceptionally well. The guard, half asleep, suddenly stands to attention and looks to see where Beniago's voice is coming from. "High Captain? Is that you, sir?" When there is no answer, he unlocks the gate and walks into the vault to look around, completely missing your half-sized form crouched behind the alarm lever. Sensing your opportunity, you slink through the open portcullis and proceed silently across the vestibule. You hear the guard mutter to himself, "I told 'em this sodding place was haunted", and then he returns to his post and locks the portcullis.
I'll save the overseer's office for tomorrow as I've got plans tonight. I'm enjoying this joint-casing mini adventure though!

Has it been an hour yet?
Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
No, it's only been a minute or two in game-world time since you reckoned it had been half an hour.

Just checking, wasn't sure how long you were deliberating with yourself in the barracks.
Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
There was a lot of discussion, but Slythe's mind moves quick

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
Did we want to do a bit more of this tonight? Just thinking that if we're playing a proper session tomorrow night, we should probably resolve this first...

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
Probably worthwhile to resolve the planning actions so that when we have the session we're not all off doing different things.
Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
Yep, sorry, was a bit busier today.
Slythe, you sneak down the corridors towards the overseer’s office. There is a guard posted at the portcullis leading to area 3, but given your ridiculous stealth and the fact that he’s tired and inattentive, I’ll say you don’t need to roll to slip by him into the office [2], which is unguarded. It looks like a converted chapel, with stone benches in front of a dais at the south end, on top of which there is a desk. Little ink bottles, a quill and a block of sealing wax line the edges of the desk, and there is a locked drawer which would require a lockpicking check to open (d20 + dex + proficiency bonus).

Okey dokey, so that's a non-natural 20 (10 + 6 + 4).

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
It takes a few minutes and you almost break your picks several times, as this is one of the harder locks you’ve ever picked, but eventually it clunks open. Inside you find what appears to be a log of yesterday’s visitors, most of which are names that mean nothing to you. One entry is circled, however: “Mr Smith, Tiefling, 10.42am, deposit and withdrawal, CV chest 77 - perform background check.”
You also find in the drawer various documents and junk of little interest, what appears to be a novel in progress entitled Galleons and Gullibility, by Walter Carrington, and a stack of poorly-scrawled and partially faded notes which looks like instructions for resetting a safe combination. There are numerous steps, none of which are explained well and some which have additional notes in different handwriting questioning their purpose (possibly from previous overseers). Assuming you can follow it at all, which would require a basic intelligence check, you think the process would take about ten minutes.

I'll take the notes, Slythe is many things but basically intelligent is not one of them. Hopefully one of my companions can work it out.
Before leaving this area, I'm going to do a quick check of the room for hidden safes etc, where backup codes etc might be secreted.
