The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes

Is it wrong that I want it to happen?
Given unlimited magical power, Jeff would probably just make himself a nice hat.

I was kind of planning on asking some random people at a bar if they wanted to see a card trick and then ask them to draw from it. -_-
Sage has three brothers, a dad and a missing sister to pick from as backup characters so I might experiment with what level 8 can do with different classes.
Okay, cool. I might roll a few extra characters on DnD Beyond just in case...

*gets the wish card*
"I wish I'd never met any of you!"
I'm rolling Sage's dad as a druid and I've got to say that seeing some of the cool stuff they can do by level 8 is almost making me want to get Sage's soul banished.

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
Does Wish have that mischievous compliance factor from schlocky horror films of old? Would "I wish I'd never met any of you" merely alter your backstory so that you got hit by a horse-drawn carriage on the way to adventuring guild signup day?
Also, I don't think Jeff is evil, he's just a bit naive. And I have to say my thoughts on the matter at the end of the evening were "How would a beholder wield a holy mace; would he just wrap an eyestalk around the handle and flail wildly?"

Only evil in the sense beholders as a race are canonically evil, aren't they?
Obviously, Jeff's one of the (sort of, if you squint a bit) good guys

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
Is he actually a full Beholder? I kind of thought he was essentially a baby one. You can tell he's one of the good guys by the excellent and gallant company he keeps anyway.
And Raid, that's generally how wish is written to work in 5E, you get what you ask for but it could take shape in many ways you didn't necessarily expect it to. Generally it's down to how each DM wants to play it.

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
Jeff is a spectator, which is a smaller, lesser version of a beholder. If Jeff had the abilities of a beholder, the results of his escapades would have been FAR worse.
And yeah, Wish is as open as a DM wants it to be. There are a standard set of things you can wish for which will simply be granted in most cases, but if you go off piste then it's down to DM discretion. The spell description makes it clear that the djinn you negotiate with may exploit any loose wording or loopholes to its own whims, so precise unmistakable requests are advised. e.g. If you said "I wish to be as strong as an ox", the djinn might turn you into an ox. Scope also matters - wishing for a single enemy to die may be a feasible request, but wishing for an entire army to die, or all your enemies, may be extremely difficult to negotiate, or it might happen but go horribly wrong (e.g. the spell kills an entire species to achieve the goal).

I hadn't even thought about the carnage he may have left in his wake yet. I'm imagining now that we're going to leave the catacombs to find the city on fire and lots of dead innocents with eye laser wounds.
I wont be able to do Thursday or Friday next week, and potentially may struggle with another as of yet unknown day.

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
Tuesday or Wednesday should be fine for me.
Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
It's probably safe to assume that unless I say otherwise I'll be free whatever night works for others. I have no life

Re: The return of the D&D campaign: This time it's potatoes
Heh, I'm very much the same. My other D&D game is now postponed until April so I'm free on Mondays again.
Any day except for Friday this week for me.

Tuesday then with Wednesday as a fall back?

Yep, let's go for Tuesday.
