Moral Hazard fucks up both civil and private business. Decisions with no responsibility. If politicians and civil servants were paid by result orientated goals (you know like the private sector) than waste would crash. It does not even have to be the profit motive, it could be waiting times, improved SLA or quantifiable efficiencies. Politicians are given almost blank cheques and if they fuck up...we can vote them out of office...yeah great

People in power do use the efficiency savings argument to argue against tax rises, but in reality both are valid methods of boosting public revenue spending. I see a lot of areas where public money is wasted, in some instances the way it has been siphoned off from our department really should be viewed as criminal; but you don't even need to be a civil servant to do a bit of research and see how many areas we just blow money on nothing.

The problem is that rather than addressing these issues properly, the Conservatives have spent 8 years slashing front line services and giving even more lucrative contracts to their friends in the private sector. That's a big contributor to your waste right there. It is literally the opposite of what they should be doing if they really want to fix the crises that are starting to take shape in pretty much every sector of public services; particularly in health and education.

Which is what increasing taxes for the middle incomes does and let's fuckin face it ... that my friend is where the lions share of any increases will come from.
