High Streets Woes - part II
Re: High Streets Woes - part II
Ours closed down relatively recently (I don't remember exactly when), and I'd assumed that meant they'd all gone bump. The prices in there are insane, I'm not surprised they weren't making any money. Also, the unit they were in for the Oxford store was massive – the rent must have been astronomical.

The wife used to get stuff from them all the time. Funnily enough this Christmas is the first in a long time that she hasn't. Can't be a coincidence, can it?
Another thing that's all the wife's fault.

Whoops?
Easy mistake to make, numbers are hard.

Isn't this sort of thing taken a bit seriously, given it could theoretically be stock price manipulation? Regardless, you'd think someone would bloody check that sort of data.

I reckon we're nowhere near knowing the full extent of that misery. Just wait until landlords are allowed to start kicking people out for not paying rent again, which I think is coming in August.

John Lewis looking rocky, too: https://www.standard.co.uk/business/joh ... 85321.html
I only heard about this because they feature prominently in our new shopping centre and so it turned up in local news. It's a big store too, so would have quite an impact.

Jesus. If there's something you really want buy it now before everyone goes under.
Re: High Streets Woes - part II
Or wait until they go under and get everything on clearance.
City high streets have been on their arse for years thanks to rents/rates and so much going online. I've seen a lot of 'ghost towns' in more rural areas where entire high streets have been boarded up. Can't imagine what that would feel like in a bigger city like mine but it seems we're definitely heading that way.

If we all load up on Littlewoods/very/etc.. credit do we still have to pay that back when they go under

Yeah, I think they hand off the debt to a collector, since the ludicrous APR they charge has got to be worth some serious money.
Re: High Streets Woes - part II
But when the debt collectors go under.... oh yeah they will be the last profession when the sun goes dark.
