The background framing looking lovely when its a rubbish filled ghost town to his left?

Jesus Christ.
What has been announced?
- The basic rate of income tax will be cut by 1p to 19p from April 2023

- The 45p tax rate for top earners over £150,000 will be abolished, also from April next year

- The level at which house-buyers begin to pay stamp duty is doubled from £125,000 to £250,000

- First-time buyers will pay no stamp duty on homes worth £450,000, up from £300,000

- Planned rise on corporation tax from 19% to 25% is scrapped

- A 1.25% rise in National Insurance to be reversed from 6 Novemnber

- Cap on bankers' bonuses, which limited rewards to twice the salary level, is axed

- Cost of subsidising both domestic and business energy bills will cost £60bn for the next six months

-Strike action: unions will be required to put offers to members during pay talks

- UK to introduce sales tax-free shopping for overseas visitors
That's a 1% tax reduction for all earners, and a 5% cut for anyone earning over £150,000.
Those desperately hard-up bankers now have unlimited bonuses again.
Unions will no longer be able to just reject insulting company pay offers, they'll have to put the decision to a ballot.
Overseas visitors will no longer have to pay sales tax.

They know they're unlikely to get re-elected, and they're strip-mining the economy for the benefit of the rich, which will fuck the next government over as they'll have no money to spend. These people all need firing into the bloody sun.

This strikes me as the sort of trickle-down economics where the rich drink champagne and then piss all over the poor.

Greed is never satisfied. Trickle down is like quenching thirst from piss splash. We don't have a cost of living crisis. We have a cost of greed crisis. It is greed that will destroy humanity ultimately. "If Labour is going to take the wheel we will scuttle the ship first."

I just can't even anymore.

Oh, they ended the fracking ban yesterday too. My local MP stood up and asked the haunted pencil about it, as we're one of the constituencies that valiantly opposed Cuadrilla's fracking site in recent years so it's clearly important. His response was absolutely astounding.

Even the Cuadrilla chairman has said it is futile and dangerous, and just won't work:

"when Cuadrilla had operated here, it had discovered that the geology of the UK was unsuited to widespread fracking operations. “No sensible investors” would take the risk of embarking on large projects here, he said. “It’s very challenging geology, compared with North America [where fracking is a major industry].”

It's at least vaguely reassuring that even the chairman of one of the companies that ought to benefit is saying that it's not commercially sensible, assuming he's not just lying through his teeth, which is a suspicion I find difficult to shake these days in political arenas.

The returns are just not worth it, they would be minuscule and it would take a decade at least to even begin seeing any revenue. The productivity would be better realised through renewables: cheaper cost, more economic return, and more profitable in the long-term. This is desperate donator-farming at best. We have burnt bridges, and we are asking the rest of the world to build new ones for us. Britain is in a desperate state thanks to these monumental frauds.

It's quite remarkable how they just keep putting worse and worse people in charge isn't it. At least Johnson didn't have the balls to give in to the demands of his right wing nutjob MPs because he desperately wanted everyone to love him and had a chancellor who at least understood basic economics. Truss has said as much that she doesn't give a shit what people think of her, so onwards with the wrecking.

Isn't fracking extremely destructive to the local environment as well? Tons of waste water that has to be disposed of and the like.

Given that the Tories basically absorbed the UKIP crowd, I'm assuming the veil of decency will continue getting thinner until they just decide to stick Farage in as PM to see if it works, because he's considered charismatic and he's racist enough to appeal to their base.

This is just so so wrong. That graph is the wrong way up. I'm 50 next year and it's true what said about becoming more conservative as you get older but this isn't anything to do with being conservative, it's blatantly inhumane.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-63012345

Looking at the middle of the graph, £842 annually really isn't going to make a massive difference to someone who earns £50,000 but that £842 would be really helpful to someone on £20,000 a year. In my opinion it needs to be more. Should there even be a Tax Cut for anyone earning in excess of £50K a year?

It's a nuanced debate because there are so many factors that connect to the tax bands. Like for instance, 50k is a decent wage in this country but even people earning that are going to be suffering from the outrageous cost of living crisis thanks to energy prices and general inflation. These people might not be facing the same issues that the lowest paid in society do, but they're not rich by any means.

We've had so little wage growth for over a decade now too that we are significantly lagging behind other countries in many areas. I think there'd be a case for making the tax bands more progressive by increasing all of the thresholds so people paid less tax overall so long as we had decent pay increases to bring us in line with other countries. For all his faults, Corbyn's idea of another band in between the middle and higher rate wasn't a bad one. 20% from 16k, 40% from 65k, 45% from 100k and 50% from 150k, as an example, could be a good starting point.

Income tax is a red herring anyway. What we need is reform to the way wealth and land are taxed so that we're not held hostage as a country by the minority of land owners.
