It's also worth noting that the third largest nuclear power in the world is actually France, and their rationale for building up such an arsenal was to deter not just conventional war but also terrorism and countries which support terrorism.
Clear proof that the Deterrence Doctrine does not work when it comes to WMD.

Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
I wasn't aware of that. What a strange policy. Who exactly are they trying to deter? Who will they nuke when a largely independently active and stateless terrorist cell runs over a crowd of people in Paris?
Nuclear weapons are a relic of the Cold War, they have no place in today's world. They're nothing but a pure pantomime now for countries to flex their muscles with.

Who wants to see Boris Johnson giving his rambling speech in front of the police, making stuff up totally on the spot and falling flat on his arse trying to make some sort of point about the police caution?
It's actually quite painful seeing someone that bad at public speaking. I think he might be losing the plot. It must sting when your own brother leaves your political party because he thinks you don't have the national interest in mind.

Bet they wished they could have used a water cannon today.

Hopefully he will crash and burn soon when people realise that he really is a total narcissistic blithering idiot. At least his short tenure as PM has led to a few good memes and amusing jokes.

The week isn't over yet! Who would have thought that Amber Rudd had any spine in her?

Lib Dems election position looks to be revocation of Article 50.
Well, damn. Swore I'd never vote for them again because they're just a bunch of slightly better presented Tories and no amount of excuses will make up for what they did in coalition. But if they're the only major party pushing this platform I don't really see an alternative, any election now will be a one issue campaign.

So if Brexit gets cancelled what happens next?
Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
We move on with our lives?
Yeah, probably not. Best drag it on for another generation or so.

Sadly I think that now extreme nationalism has been let out of the box I don't think we stand a chance of putting this behind us for many years.
Most media outlets shied away from covering this, but there was a pretty violent clash between Leave supporters and the police the other day when the Leave side started to aggravate a Remain protest in London. It was one of the days Boris suffered his first defeat in Parliament I think. There's very little footage of it, but there is already violence in the streets because of Brexit.
Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
Which election, exactly? There's what, three weeks between parliament resuming and the end of October? The EU have already suggested that there won't be another extension granted. Johnson wants No Deal, and that's still currently the default position. The opposition have already voted down calling for an election twice in the last few days.
Frankly I think it's a bit bloody late to be campaigning for revoking article 50.
Re: The Elephant in the Room - Brexit
All things going well, the EU grants an extension to avoid No Deal which is currently rumoured to be likely in Brussels, then when Johnson comes back the opposition triggers a VONC and we have an election.
Of course given Johnson's consistent refusal to obey the recently passed law that requires him to seek an extension I imagine what will actually happen is that he finds a way to weasel out and we crash out on October 31st.
