So this wasn't made clear at the time but the idea behind the votes was to whittle down the choices and then bring back the most popular ones on Monday for a second vote. This second vote might include some kind of vote transfer so that they can come to a clear choice.

ICO fines Vote Leave £40,000 for sending unlawful text messages

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has fined Vote Leave Limited £40,000 for sending out thousands of unsolicited text messages in the run up to the 2016 EU referendum.

An ICO investigation found that Vote Leave sent 196,154 text messages promoting the aims of the Leave campaign with the majority containing a link to its website.

The investigation also found that Vote Leave was unable to provide evidence that the people who received the messages had given their consent; a key requirement of electronic marketing law.

ICO Director of Investigations, Steve Eckersley, said:

“Spam texts are a real nuisance for millions of people and we will take action against organisations who disregard the law.

“Direct marketing is not just about selling products and services, it’s also about promoting an organisation’s aims and ideals.

“Political campaigns and parties, like any other organisations, have to comply with the law.”

Vote Leave claimed the information it had used to contact people was obtained from enquiries which had come through their website; from individuals who had responded via text to promotional leaflets; and from entrants to a football competition.

However, the organisation said that following the conclusion of the referendum campaign it had deleted evidence of the consent relied upon to send the messages. Also deleted were details of the phone numbers the messages were sent from, the volume of messages sent, and the volume of messages received.

The ICO publishes detailed guidance on political campaigning and direct marketing explaining the legal obligations organisations have to comply with the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR).

This latest fine is part of the ICO’s ongoing investigation into the use of data in political campaigns. As a result of the investigation the ICO has taken action against a number of different organisations engaged in campaigning for breaches of direct marketing and data protection laws.

They've just voted on her deal (or half of it at least, that's the trickery she used to get it past Bercow) again and beaten it by 58.

Our extension past April 12th was contingent on her deal passing. The EU are now calling an emergency session on the 10th just in case.

General election here we come. Whether the EU will agree to give us a further extension so that we can do that remains to be seen, I wouldn't be surprised if they were sick to death of us and just let us go on the 12th.

Forgive my cynicism, as ever, but what's to stop the Tories simly getting rid of May, sticking Boris or Rees Mogg in there, forcing us to crash out with no deal? It really doesn't feel like the ball is in the public's court, and the default of No Deal seems ever more likely.

Technically they can't get rid of her until the end of the year because internal rules of the party require a 12 month period between no confidence votes. So unless she goes willingly or Corbyn manages to get a no confidence majority through Parliament she is here to stay.

Unless she steps down voluntarily.

But yes, with the stranglehold the right wing press seem to have on the electorate of this country, the idiots will keep just voting in Conservatives and we will end up with some Edwin even worse than May (if such incompetence can really be doubled down on).
