Such is the song of the nether world
The hissing of rats

Sadly not. It all happened so fast I was still pulling the children out of the way as she went past, followed up by making obscene gestures at her receding boot
It was only a bit later I thought I should have got the phone out and taken a photo of the reg.

She was receding? You don't see that that often in women.

It's rude to make obscene gestures at a woman's boot.

I believe I also asked the (already well out of earshot) driver what the [expletive deleted] she thought she was doing.
Yeah, taking a photo probably would have been a better idea at that point

As some will have noted from a couple of recent game release threads, I'm not keen on a style of writing currently prevalent on RPS notably.
And there's another one here today:
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2019/0 ... ps-review/
A different writer, but the same conceit of "humorously" changing the game's title throughout said review. Rebel Cops becomes... wait for it... Unapproved Fuzz (chortle!)... or Cheeky Lawmen (guffaw!). This goes on and on. Has this become editorial mandate since the original RPS crew moved on? Is it just how people of this generation communicate and I'm too old to have noticed or appreciate it? Is this what passes for humour nowadays?
GAH!

I cross the one way system next to Waterstones every morning. I've seen at least two people nearly killed there by people speeding to beat that set of lights in the last few years.
Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan
Crossing a pedestrian crossing on a green man when everything was topped. My son went a little bit ahead and got to the other side of the road when a motorbike went hurtling past in between us totally oblivious to the lights.
I think that was the first time my son heard me swear

That's the thing I don't get the most. Do these writers think they're witty? Are their audience base actually enjoying this level of humour? Because changing the name of something to repeatedly take the piss out of it is such base level unoriginal nonsense at pretty much the lowest level of humour, I don't find it amusing in the slightest.Sly Boots wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 4:40 pmA different writer, but the same conceit of "humorously" changing the game's title throughout said review. Maybe their average reader age demographic has dropped in recent years so they've changed things up to cater for it.

That reviewer, I notice, critiques the game's "writing" a lot. Because he is an expert on that, apparently.

It could be generational. Or it could be something about those writers being in a bubble where they find each other quips funny and assume that everyone else does too.Sly Boots wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2019 4:40 pmAs some will have noted from a couple of recent game release threads, I'm not keen on a style of writing currently prevalent on RPS notably.

i thought the piece was written fine. Shrug. Maybe if I read them more often the style might annoy me but I thought he got all the salient points across.

Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan
To be fair, I think it was just the repeated use of "witty", alternative names for the game's title that was annoying Sly.

I'm sure PC Gamer used to do the same thing, and I don't think I've picked a copy of PCG up since 1999. It typically was reserved for titles in the 40% score or lower. It's certainly not a new technique.
Re: The Room 101 thread - for things you hate or just having a bloody good moan
Sly is not alone, the puerile dribblings of RPS reviews really is reaching new lows.
Borderlands 3 review. Hilariously the word borderlands becomes: Burgerlords Bonglungs Bundlebirds Borgleblood Barterlead Bunglebouts Blastyloot Brute-a-lot. Oh my sides.
It isn't just this kind of fanny that irritates me though, the reviews now frequently descend into utter gibberish. From the same review: "Here’s where I stop circling the wheelbarrow of sausages at the heart of this review, and just dive in with gravy-slick hands", I'm sorry, what?
