They were definitely the first-years at uni who decided to re-invent themselves with a 'unique' quirky personality, usually in the form of a hat or an annoying catchphrase which nobody picked up on.

"Here’s where I stop circling the wheelbarrow of sausages at the heart of this review, and just dive in with gravy-slick hands", I'm sorry, what?

I read PC Gamer between 1996 and 1999. I'm pretty sure there was some very silly stuff back then, but I was in my early teens at the time, so that kind of thing appealed.

Other people's mobile phone speakers in public.

Nothing riles me more than some inconsiderate arsehole playing music or videos on their phone with the speaker turned up. Seriously you total arse, use the fucking headphones that came free with the bloody phone or mute that shit.

I agree. However, I'd say (at least according to my observations) that used to be much more of an issue about ten, fifteen years ago? Nowadays it seems quite rare. In fact, I've found it's rare to find somebody who ISN'T wearing a pair of headphones!

Here's my "bloody good moan" of the day:

I saw three student-types walking down the road from Sainsburys, having STOLEN A SHOPPING TROLLEY to transport the ingredients of what looked like the ingredients for their dinner tonight back to their student residence, a ten minute walk away from the shop. I am by no means a strong man (I don't do any heavy lifting and am pretty skinny), but I am confident I could have carried everything in their shopping trolley by myself, in one backpack, or two shopping bags.

I imagine that they were "green" types who were taking pride in their not using shopping bags, but there was so little stuff in the trolley they could have used backpacks, or carried all the stuff in the cart between them. There's no need to steal a trolley! :x

three student-types
That's the answer. They'll probably collect a traffic cone on the way too

Twitter.

Yes, back to Social Media ranting again, but seriously, I have no idea what most of the things people are talking about these days even mean.

For example, this tweet appeared on my feed today because a game designer I follow liked it.

Now, I realise I have not been playing mainstream videogames for over a decade now, so I guess I am behind on a lot of the current lingo, but I honestly have absolutely no clue what any of that means, or what the tweet is about.

But that is just a typical example of how each day I seem to find more tweets talking about "issues" which I cannot make head or tail of, speaking in terms that have no meaning to me.

Maybe I am just getting old and this is what it feels like... :-k

I must admit, I didn't fully understand at first, then read most of the comments, then read the OP again. It seems that there are some people that feel their experience of a game is lessened because there is an easy/story mode that others can choose to play with. Talk about thinking up things to worry about!

Okay, thanks eny -- I think I understand that slightly better now. I can't even begin to fathom why anyone's own experience of a game would be "tainted" by the way other people play it. Weird.

What is "storymode", though? I have never heard of that before.

Also, what does "my mentions" mean? :?

I'm guessing he's been tagged by someone else in a reply maybe, so that the post appears in his twitter feed?

On my phone I get notifications of tweets by people whose tweets I've liked in the past, so probably just something like that.

It basically just means it's something that twitter has brought to his attention somehow.

Story mode is usually just "without fighting" or super easy fighting - i.e. super easy because you just want the story.

"mentions" are people responding to your posts/notifications you get when people respond or retweet your post.

Aha! Thanks for the info. I have to say, I've always found Twitter a bit baffling and I'm still trying to keep up with all the terminology.
