Just did a Tesco shop, almost back to normal bar fucking toilet paper, utterly perplexing! The people of Henley came out and applauded me on my driving, which was nice... :D

Yeah, wife did a trip to Morrisons earlier, said it was pretty well stocked for most things, they were limiting how many people came inside at any one time but the general mood was relaxed enough. Hopefully things are slowly returning to normal on that front at least.

Went to the cornershop for milk this morning and had a quick chat with the staff. Apparently the only thing they've been short of is eggs - everything else hasn't been too bad and they're getting daily deliveries, so that's reassuring for keeping on top of essentials.

The clapping thing... a nice gesture, I'm sure, but maybe the NHS would appreciate it more if they were properly staffed, properly recompensed and properly equipped as standard.

after this I think the govt will invest more in long term health care planning.

So much for the US company that tried to say it was "essential" and tried to force their staff to come to work during Covid -

I don't.

I think they'll put stuff in place to be able to switch to an isolation mode faster and more instantly - dictate how much can be sold at supermarkets etc. But that's about it. I really don't have any more faith than that.

Right so, I'm classed as a frontline worker at the moment. I'm on the IT project team within the NHS, but we have a very close working relationship with clinical staff (always in theatres, on wards, etc.) so I know a bit about this.

Yesterday I sat in a presentation delivered by the ex head of infection control (https://www.somek.com/site/people/profi ... in.kiernan) and these were the key points:

- COVID-19 is not (apparently) spread via an aerosol (sneezing) but instead by coughing; this means that the 2m social distancing is important, because the average range on a cough is 2-3ft

- We're gearing up to do antibody testing across the population. Current estimates are that about 50% of the population has already had this disease

- The vast, vast majority of us will experience no, or extremely mild symptoms. We still need to take this very seriously to protect the vulnerable in our society, but there's a good chance you've already either had it, or will contract it without knowing a bloody thing

- It has been circulating since at least October - long before it hit anyone's radar

Overall, the outlook isn't as bleak - thus far - as we have been led to believe... but ffs, stay indoors and look after yourselves.

Funfact: SARS, MERS and COVID-19 all have one thing in common.

Bats.

It's the fucking bats, guys. Always the bats :-k

I've finally got some clarity on my job, which is that I'm going down to 28 hours per week from my current 33.75 for the rest of the year. Not quite as bad as I'd feared thankfully, and at least I still have a job.

The PM has it

Some amazing stats CH. This is a very odd virus if that is the case - from feeling OK to killing you. Just weird.

When I see a bat,"I wonder what that tastes like.." isn't something I tend to think. Hopefully this whole mess will force people to rethink how we treat animals, probably not though.

I think the suspected origin in this instance is from a bat that bit and infected some other animal which was then sold and consumed at a Chinese meat market, not so much that someone actually ate a bat.

Either way the solution is pretty simple.

That’s the first positive thing anyone’s said about him on here.

Matt Hancock too.

I imagine all the top Tories are going to come down with it shortly.
