Started the pre-install (on Xbox) which is about 148Gb. It'll be done some time this afternoon but won't be able to play it until tonight maybe. Seeing as they had to get this to run on the Series S I'm a tiny bit sceptical about how it's going to perform.

Well that's alright because the XBox app doesn't let you sodding pre-load anything except for a 10mb license file. Given the frequent crapshoot that is any app produced by Microsoft, I had to search Google to ask whether this was working as intended. Surprise, it is!

I guess it just means I'll have 250gb to download come 4pm instead of 100gb.

PC here, just tried it again to see if it would initiate a download of any kind beyond the tiny one Raid mentioned, but no dice.

Guess I'll be playing this tomorrow at the earliest!

Yeah, it's specific to the PC platform, presumably because PC files are more likely to be cracked open.

Yes, pre-load is exclusive to XBox, PC has no rights management protection so we all get it at the same time...

Not read it yet, but the opening of the RPS review sounds like it's a great game but currently exceedingly buggy.

It's excellent, and undoubtedly my personal game of the year, but here comes the caveat. I meant what I said: Stalker 2 is Stalker to the bone, and that means the bad stuff too. There were errors, crashes, progress-halting bugs and at-times hilarious glitches in animation and AI, plus minor stuttering that I just came to accept as the price of admission, even at 1440p on my 3700X, RTX 4080, and 32GB RAM-equipped machine. And though a meaty day-one patch has helped a lot, the game still feels rickety: a bit stuttery, with AI that still sometimes fails to distinguish between friend and foe, and so on.

I also love that they are making it co-op (albeit in a downstream patch). I have an urge to not play it single player on release, but get a group in the TGA Ghosts to play it through co-op start to finish, experience the whole thing as a group of stalkers. It makes perfect sense, all the other stalkers you meet in the game are in groups, so I think it will work well.
This is, honestly, exactly what I hoped and dreamed for during the first STALKER experience. We were so worked up about it! Dave and I especially, I think we chatted a few times about how absolutely brilliant and atmospheric it would be to co-op STALKER - hide up in an apartment somewhere, recon the A-life, other stalkers, etc, come up with a plan after a while...

If there will be co-op, then yeah I'm willing to put in the pain of not playing in order to wait to experience the thing with you fellas :)
Such a shame that you didn't get to see it my friend :(

And sorry for being a little mawkish but top marks to Prey/Dave/Lenny/Mandalorian for this:

It's sad Soli never got to see it but least we remember him.

Couldn't help myself and gave it a quick go. Playing on Xbox and so far it looks and feels very like Metro Last Light. You start at night time so it's hard to tell how the visuals really are, so far they seem fine. The voice acting is a bit off putting if I'm honest, your character is American (I think) and the npc 's all have English accents, I've had rather Ukrainian's speaking English. I've also died twice and both felt a bit cheap.

It was a quick and dirty look at the game so my first impressions probably aren't fair. I'll give it a better look over the next few days.
