I haven't been playing for as long as you have (I think I hit rank 24 or 25 last night), but I think the maps are pretty good. They're obviously going for a realistic aesthetic, and the slightly dreary locations do work for that, even if I think the amount of detail the engine's capable of and the amount of colour they're using makes them feel quite interesting to me. That said, I do feel like the heavily urban maps are very difficult to learn, as when you start it feels like there's an enemy camping in every window and on every rooftop that will headshot you with a sniper rifle before you're even aware of the possibility that there's someone there. The New York map can be utterly miserable when you're looking at the full 7 capture point version as there's never a front line - never a safe direction for you to be facing away from.

I'm definitely learning though. I think a good pair of headphones and a more cautious attitude are pretty important in this, as you need to both listen for enemy footsteps and have your gun in a position to fire immediately if someone comes into view. I don't think I really started enjoying it properly until I started upgrading whatever they call the MP5 in this, as it's both rapid fire and accurate enough to work at most ranges, and (now) silenced to stop those enemies that are capable of keeping a third eye on the minimap every second of the match.

I really dislike the New York maps, as you said there's no front line and getting shot in the back seems to be the norm. Its also possible to get spawn trapped on these maps. The one that has a trench network on one side and a building site on the other looks great (no doubt based on Ukraine). I may just be a wee bit jaded with the online aspect of gaming and the skill has long since faded. Saying that though, I will keep at it as I do enjoy playing. Bigger and better maps are hopefully on the way.
