So it's an MMO then. ;)
I couldn't help but think of pre-WoW MMOs when reading the Eurogamer review. Prior to WoW, MMOs were basically a world that you made your own fun in, the game provided the server and the absolute bare-bones of an objective.

I've no problem with a game expecting you to make your own fun, but the success of that depends largely on what the game lets you do. If the most interesting things you can do in Fallout 76 are gathering junk like a diligent beach-cleaner, building settlements through a terrible interface or fighting dull monsters that only ever rush you, the amount of emergent or imaginative fun is severely limited.

This is a hackneyed comparison, but consider Breath of the Wild, in which I've spent hours making my own fun off the beaten track. Simply jumping off a cliff and gliding over the world is a joy. Experimenting with different ways to use your equipment and the environment to attack a bokoblin camp is an ad-hoc pleasure. If the most basic functions of your game allow you to do things that are inventive and enjoyable then you never need to worry about your players getting bored. Fallout 76 appears to be clueless in that regard, just littering a barren world with trash, robots and monsters and telling players to get on with whatever it is they expect a Fallout game to be.

Blatant cash grab came to mind when this was first announced and details were leaking out.

Statfield and scrolls better be good aye :)

That's exactly the reason I consider BotW to be a masterpiece; even the relatively mundane things are fun. It has extremely robust basic gameplay mechanics that you can combine in any number of ways, and it feels thoroughly playtested. You just know that there were a thousand ideas left out because they were tested and found not to be enjoyable.

Fallout 76 seems to fall down at the very first hurdle; the basic gameplay isn't actually enjoyable. I didn't play a massive amount of Fallout 4, but I know the enjoyment largely came from the quests and the dialogue rather than the shooting mechanics, and Fallout 76 threw out the wrong side of that equation, perhaps because it didn't work in an online environment.

I'm confident they'll be back up to expectations (i.e. bug-riddled but generally excellent) as it's what Bethesda knows. I am a massively biased Elder Scrolls sucker though. ;)

Don't forget this was mostly the old Battlecry Studio not Bethesda Game Studios themselves. So I don't think there is much to worry about a regarding a dive in quality for Starfield and ES6.

Oh dear. Trying to pull the wool over gamers eyes if pointless. Gamers are passionate to the point of obsession. A rush job only results in failure

So when Todd was on stage at E3 sayiing this was a joint collaboration between all there top dev studios it was not to be?

GiantBomb refused to review it as no one wanted to spend 20-30 hours in the game.

But one silver lining not sure if wholly true but those that bought the PC version can get refunds on this steaming pile of shit. If you bought get in quick as I doubt it will be offered for very long I reckon.
