I've never followed these games that closely in terms of the developers, have they said why they think save potions are a good idea?

I can't remember what their justification was in the first game, all I know it's the very first thing I've yeeted from both games

It seems a baffling choice in a game that not only has hardcore combat and the ever-present risk of death around every corner, but also has been known to have technical issues.

For the original (and I assume this is still the case), they wanted the player to feel the genuine peril of certain actions in medieval life so that when you take a risk such as attacking a bandit camp, it actually feels like a risk. You're not meant to be a superhero - you're a squishy, vulnerable peasant. I get the idea, and to a certain extent it does have the intended effect, but in practice it's just an inconvenience and a pain in the arse.

A few helpful mods listed here:

https://www.pcgamer.com/games/rpg/best- ... ce-2-mods/

I think I'm definitely going to grab the ones that make picking herbs instant so you don't have to sit through the animation each time, and grabbing a bunch in a radius rather than one at a time. Mostly because I'm playing on my channel and I think people will tire of it pretty quickly

Sorry I'm not watching that as I'm avoiding spoilers.

Be acreful of increased radius mods. I seem to recall from the first one that it has unintended side effects (can't remember what).
My gotto mods are:
save anywhere
increased capacity
first person herb picking
instant herb picking

I have teetered on grabbing this. If I didn't finish it (I am a perennial non-finisher) I came really close with the first title and very much enjoyed my time with it.

I'm on the lam! I approached someone on a forest path and a bunch of bandits ambushed me from the trees. After getting my arse handed to me, I reloaded and got the jump on them by sneaking round behind the ambushers, and with some help from my trusty Mutt I got the better of them. When I went to loot, I noticed that it said steal rather than pickup, but I thoroughly looted anyway.

And now I'm wanted in Troskowicz for mass murder. I think what happened was because I attacked them first - despite the fact they were bandits waiting to attack me - it counted as murder, and I can only assume some passer-by witnessed me tearing some innocent woodsmen to pieces with my vicious little yapping dog. It's a right pain, as you can't simply pay indulgences for murder and the fine is 2000gp, which is way beyond my means at the moment. I'm not remotely able to charm my way out of it either. I could just accept arrest and be branded, but I've heard that really messes up your ability to play the game normally.

Supposedly the wanted status will go away after quite a while, but I think it's going to be easiest to just raise the money for the fine. I do love this game, but good lord can it screw you over without you realising it!

Damn... my first brush with the law was when trying to get a bath and my clothes washed at the bathhouse, was trying to speak to the owner who was messing about on their stove at the time... instead Henry swooped in and stole a spoonful of their stew right in front of their eyes and all hell kicked off

The fine wasn't much, but it was a bit annoying as when the guard came to confront me he was somehow able to identify other stolen items in my inventory and confiscated them, including a rather nice sword I was planning to repair and use myself that I looted from a bandit's corpse (no idea why the game considered it stolen)...

Finally scraped together 2000 groschen for the fine (which took hours), then shortly after I received a message saying people think I’m a thief. #-o I went to the indulgences box to try and buy back my reputation, only to find it’s at 1600gp! The only things I’ve really ‘stolen’ are the scraps from the bandits I supposedly murdered, so I guess it’s because I’ve had to keep wandering into restricted areas to talk to people for various quests, which seems unduly unfair. There really needs to be a ‘knock on door’ option for that.

Feeling a bit hard done to! Poor Henry’s bumbling his way innocently through life, trying to help folk folk, and they’ve shat all over him. Might start going renegade soon to live up to the slander.

I do think the crime system needs some balancing though, as it seems over-zealous compared to the first game.

I was on a sneaky quest that involved breaking into someone's house. While there I found a decent pair of shoes, which I immediately put on as mine were shit and falling apart.

The next day I strolled into their farm to buy something, the guy shouts "hey, you're wearing our stuff!" screams for the guards and I promptly get Benny Hill-chased through the countryside by the constabulary

Iirc my playthrough of the first game involved some modding to make the whole stolen goods thing less brutal.

Made it to the second map last night. A couple of things worth mentioning: firstly, you can return to the first map and continue (most) quests, though I haven't tried this yet.

Secondly, there is a quest on the first map where you'll more or less be locked into a fairly linear set of events for something like 10-15 hours before getting to the second map. I think it's reasonably obvious what the quest is, but I'll spoiler it just in case:

Spoiler
Attending the wedding

The majority of the intermission between maps is great (with the exception of one section near the end which is plain awful and frustrating), but it's not what I play KCD for. I like being an itinerant peasant doing odd jobs, wandering about and getting into (and out of) scrapes. I don't mind sporadic story quests being linear, but being locked into that for so long was quite draining, and I found myself skim-reading cutscene subtitles and skipping through them as quickly as possible. Think I'm at a point now where I can go back to roaming about freely, thankfully.

I did wonder at how much I could zoom out on the map, thinking there better be some doozy quests here to make up for the size difference. But there's a second map!

Sorry, didn't want to spoil anything (don't think it's much of a spoiler, hopefully) - it's mentioned in quite a few reviews so I assumed everyone knew!
