Extended gameplay demo put out in response to "Disappointing pre-orders" off the back of the recent reveal.

Game looks dull as ditchwater, plus the whole restricted dismemberment thing riles me no end.

It's very hot and I'm very tired, so I misread that RPS headline as "You Can't Chop Off People's Willy"

New trailer:

I'm still cautiously optimistic for this, but it'll live or die by how good the combat system feels. I think the look and sound of Star Wars is pretty easy to get right, because so much of the design work that went into the original films was absolutely iconic (and the franchise has some of the best sound design from any entertainment medium). They seem to have listened to the feedback regarding how poor the lightsaber looked at E3 and fixed it to more resemble the effect from the films, so that's at least a little encouraging.

They've corrected it to 16gb on Origin, which is a bit more reasonable!

Early reports I've seen, including user reviews, seem to be very positive. Guardian gave it 4/5.

Eurogamer seem a bit more cautious in their praise, citing technical issues and late-game tedium:

I'm still tempted if I can find it for a reasonable price, though I may wait a couple of weeks for patches.

EDIT - Β£38.99 seems to be the best I can find on PC (CDkeys). Think I'll wait for a price drop.

Apparently you can get Game Pass for Β£1 a month for 3 months or something at the moment so I'm going to do that and try and get some time in to play this.

Oh, wait, looks like there was a mix up and someone was talking about Outer Worlds instead of Star Wars. Boo.

Yeah, the Eurogamer review did pour a bit of cold water on it. I also wasn't that keen on Dark Souls so what is no doubt an attraction for many isn't something I feel a burning desire to play.

If it's heavily discounted at some point I may pick it up then.

I haven't read anything that's put me off yet. Eurogamer's review mentions simplistic storytelling, but one of the best things I've seen from Star Wars in the last two decades was a kid's show, so frankly I think I can probably put up with that (which is not to say it's not a little disappointing) so long as the atmosphere and gameplay are good. I've maybe completed five games in the past ten years so worrying about end game grind isn't that big of an issue for me.

For those concerned about the Dark Souls style of gameplay, it looks like this has multiple difficulty modes so won't necessarily need to be super challenging if you're not keen on it.
