I've tried to go back to the original Gears trilogy in the past, but couldn't get into it solo. It's much better as a co-op game.

The originals haven't aged well. They were solid action games with pretty memorable characters and a decent plot, but there are so many sections where you're forced to painstakingly walk at a snails pace from one area to another while the characters speak with each other on the radio. I'm sure it was their way of combining exposition dumps with a sneaky way to bypass lengthy map loading times, but it was agonising to experience when I tried to co-op Gears 2 a year or so ago.

I played through some of the first Gears when it came to the PC but never finished it. I recently played a bit of Tactics which made me wonder if 5, which is on Gamepass, was worth a look. It is a lot of fun - I bet it would be a brilliant co-op experience but have no co-op partner to find out.

Edit: Not that it really matters, it's crossplay compatible. I'll likely play on PC as I don't have a headset compatible with my XBox.

PC bud and Monday sounds good. Word of advice, assuming your PC is up to the task, not only install the game but then fire it up and download the texture pack, extreme GFX etc. Save some time Monday

Yeah, already done. I loaded it up just to make sure it ran ok (I had some issues with Halo MCC on PC) and noticed the 65gb of extra install. I did want to test how well it ran, but then with a 3080 I reckon it could run well enough with 4000 cuda cores tied behind its back. I did give it a go and at 3440x1440 it runs at a locked 60 (I only have a 60hz monitor so I tend to lock games to that where possible) even at the absolute highest settings.

Blimey it's a big download isn't it. I'm sure it already did 80 something GB and now it's tacking another 60 on top.

Yeah. I was initially impressed when I hit download and it was only 40gb. I appreciate the fact that you can pick and choose which modules you download, but what the hell is in that initial 40gb download if it contains neither the campaign nor the multiplayer? I don't think the tutorial is going to need that much space. I'm also really not appreciating the amount of screens trying to sell me stuff.

But hey, it looks and plays great, so I'm not actually complaining.

Yeah if you want all the candy it is a whopping install, but it does indeed look sensational so there is that
