You've got to love the emergent story-telling in this.
Just had a situation where on the way to a mission I saw a half-wrecked building and went to check it out. Inside I found a blowhard calling himself "The Legend" filling a load of inexperienced stalkers with bullshit stories. When I talked to him I got the option to either give him 1.5k to hear one of his pearls of wisdom, or threaten him. Being a cheapskate, I chose the latter, whereupon he cacked himself and told me he knew the location of a 'legendary cache' he'd give me directions to if I left him alone.
This sounded like a good deal, and the cache wasn't too far... however it was in the middle of a fairly high-radiation area, but I had some anti-rad so I went through it towards the cache. When I got there, it just had a hunk of stale bread and broken pistol. Feeling vengeful I made my way back to the building, only to find The Legend and all his mates had scarpered.
"Fair enough," I thought, "just another day in the Zone," and started making my way onwards to my original mission objective.
Only a few hundred yards away though, an emission started, so I high-tailed it back to the building, where earlier I'd spied a basement that looked like it should offer enough cover.
I was just settling in to wait out the emission, when two other stalkers came belting down the stairs and huddled in the corner. When I went up to talk to them, I discovered it was none other than The Legend, and one bodyguard. After a moment's deliberation I shot him in the face with a shotgun, followed by his guard, and looted their corpses. To my satisfaction, The Legend was carrying a rather nice assault rifle, which I sold for several thousands credits.
That was pretty cool
