In a somewhat unexpected move given the game comes out in just a couple of weeks, it's been announced that this will be exclusive to the Epic store.

Hum.
Another exclusive for the EGS basket.

Until next year anyway.

Not a fan of this exclusivity nonsense that appears to be oozing its way into the PC space lately.

Yep Epic know their client is shit so have to buy the games to make people use it. No way that isn't going foster a lot of resentment to them

The timing is so bad and I don't like the fact that they try to do it under the guise of consumer choice. It's done for money reasons alone.

The Epic store is not the best but I'd be more concerned with their ability to keep my credit card details safe.

Yeah, have to say I'm having second thoughts about buying it after this. Might wait until the exclusivity period is over.

I wonder if they will try to charge the same asking price before they pulled it from steam by then.

It's cheaper than on Steam in the US ($50) but the Euro price is 60, not sure about the UK price.

In announcing the Epic deal they dropped the US price, but not the UK/Europe price.

It's actually more expensive now as you could pick the game up from key sites for less than the Steam price but can't do that with the Epic store.

I wondered about that. Everything about this is telling me to wait. I can't be arsed with another storefront, particularly if its one that forces you to pay top dollar for its games. I don't buy things through Uplay or Origin either but am forced to have the launcher to play EA and Ubi games, but I don't play anything from Epic so sod it.

Yeah it's not consumer friendly. People have been defending it because it happens on consoles but just because other company do it doesn't mean it's good practice.

I can accept exclusivity on PC providing that three things are true:

1) The game isn't unreasonably expensive. e.g. If you think I'm going to pay £60 for your AAA game when I'd expect to pay £40 or less for similar new games from somewhere like greenmangaming, you can forget about it.

2) I trust the platform.

3) The platform isn't a pain in the arse to use.

In most cases, if I have a specific game I want to buy on release then if it's available on Steam, I'll almost certainly buy it on Steam (either directly or via a keysite). The only ways I can think to break me out of that right now are exclusivity and price. I'd happily buy more new releases on GOG if they were a few quid cheaper than Steam, but they're usually not.

The best way I can think of to attract me to a new platform is to make the experience of browsing for random games to buy easier and more effective. Steam is not great in that regard - I spent about half an hour last week milling around its recommended games and various genre store fronts on Steam, money in hand ready to spend, and I ended up not buying anything. If you have almost every PC game in existence available and a willing customer, and you STILL can't get them to part with their cash, you're doing something wrong.

Exclusivity is always bad for consumers.

Choice is brilliant. No choice but "this one" sucks, but hey ho. For this to work Epic will have to a calculation with THQ. THQ will estimate sales on Steam and revenue on 70% v sales on Epic with revenues of 88%. Epic may compensate THQ if the sales expectations are below THQ Steam estimates, otherwise why would THQ "help" a novice PC client. They want to maximize revenue and Epic could be their guarantee.

Put it this way - Fortnite is subsidizing Metro
Games playing : Bioshock (Remastered) / Total War Britannia / Dirt 4

I completely agree, I'd always rather have a choice. But if an exclusive game is on a reasonable platform at a price I consider appropriate, I'm not going to lose sleep over it.

Just to point out it was Koch Media who made this decision not THQ Nordic. Koch are a separate division of the company who work independently from THQ Nordic. Bit like how things work at Sony.
