Might drop in before the weekend in tha case and see if I can buff anything.

Enjoyed that. I was very attached to the SMG I had for most of the run, which by the end had two blue attachments, one purple and one orange, but got a bit annoyed at the small clip size (19 bullets), which meant I spent most of my time reloading and back-pedalling from the horde bearing down on me while I did so. But then a couple of levels from the end of the session I picked up a meaty blue LMG, which really felt like it had some heft to it, and felt like I was actually doing damage to the bigger enemies.

I'm quite fond of the starting weapon for Mama, didn't swap it out for the entire run and managed to get quite a few nice upgrades on it. It's a semi automatic rifle which gives a very satisfying thump with every shot. Very easy to just line up heads and sit popping them from a distance as they run towards you.

-I liked the M4 I started with, it was punchy and accurate.
-The auto shotgun I had to drop it for because I had no rifle ammo may have been powerful, but a 9 round magazine and a fairly slow reload made it pretty poor considering the amount of enemies the game throws at you.
-The sniper rifle I moved on to really wasn't suitable for the mass fights, and the gameplay is just a bit too manic to make the ability to hit a weak point at long range a big enough pro.
-The RPK that I grabbed from Snowy when he found his chuntercannon was pretty decent, but I think I accidentally swapped out his upgrades because I didn't realise they were on it.
-The MP5 I ended the session with was probably my favourite weapon for punch and speed (it had lightning fast reloads and a 25 round magazine), but it just wasn't as satisfying to use.

On my brief outing with real people I tended to play as Mama but I ditched her sawn-off almost immediately. I usually went for the magnum and the M4 but replaced that with a LMG if possible.

Yeah I'm not keen on the sawn off side arm either. I keep swapping it out for an m9 or a glock.

I think the primary shotgun weapons might have some use against the tougher specials in harder difficulties to really burst them down before they can do any damage to the team. But it would really require a decent side arm that is good at clearing regular Ridden to support it.

Certainly in L4D (which as some of you haven't played it we should 100% play through) the shotgun had its place. There are two tiers of guns in L4D, with shotguns in each, and the higher tier combat shotty was phenomenal for scything down swarms up close and personal, but most of all for dealing with the Witch. A brave soul could run right up to her and shoot her point blank in the face before she spooked for an instant kill.

Regarding sidearms, you need to be careful. At one point I had a magnum and hadnt realised that it used the same ammo as my main. When I ran out and switched to my sidearm I had a whole six shots to do damage with before I was reduced to harsh language! I think I will keep it as I always did in L4D and have a melee weapon as my backup, but not the axe - the animation for that swings it up and then down, only good for a single opponent where for melee I want side-to-side swipes to keep an arc in front of me clear.

Really enjoyed last night, great to get us all online and being able to get my hands on a chunter cannon in any title always makes me happy. Roll on session number 2!

I think the Tallboys are very possibly the most fucking irritating enemies I've seen in a game :x

Sorry mate, just seen this. As I thought you were all busy I went for a couple of beers with my brother. Am around this evening and this weekend though, when is everyone else available?

Visiting my folks this weekend so won't be about.

Managed a few descent rounds yesterday with some good players, we got as far as the mines near end of chapter 1 but just got swamped. Love the auto shotgun, great for crowd clearing and taking down the bigger enemies but it just eats ammo. Also found a few Easter eggs while playing. In the swamp there's a shack with a chained trapdoor and a pair of hands poking out like in Evil Dead and I think I found Freddie Kruger's striped jumper hanging in a wardrobe.

It's fun when you get a good run but can be very frustrating as well.

4pm? Don't necessarily need to play all that time, just gives us a generous window
