Gave it a few hours. I think I'm enjoying it.
When I started the game I did a 180 from where I think I was being told to go but I think I'm supposed to go a certain way.
Anyway, back to the start after a quick tour around and I'm doing the first few missions.

Combat feels ok, graphics are nice. Voice acting is top notch.

Yeah, I think I'll carry on with this.

Played it for a bit as well. Looks really nice, not your usual drab post apocalyptic browns and Grey's but vibrant greens and wild flowers everywhere. I did a bit of a wander as well and depopulated the local banditry. The enemy AI is a tad lackluster at times, tends to just stand there and take a kicking. I've seen it compared to Fallout buts it's closer to BioShock for me.

Agree that it looks nice, combat isn't great though and the AI is pretty bad. Outside that though I am enjoying the fact that you are just out there investigating a mystery and there aren't really quests per say, just leads to follow.

Played a bit more and made it to the main village seen in the trailers. Very picturesque and nicely detailed. The npc's however do not look great, the movement is a bit janky and soldiers in the town will occasionally just run around firing their guns for no apparent reason. The enemy AI is only dangerous if they get near where you'll get a wallop and lose a ton of health. They can't hit the wide side of a barn with guns (this is bandits, no idea if soldiers are more dangerous). But overall I'm enjoying and it's keeping me interested.

It’s an odd one. I’m enjoying it, but no one aspect is especially great. The combat I think is mostly awful, which is a shame given the frequency of mobs you end up fighting. The exploration is decent but somewhat limited and lacking variety. The mystery is its greatest strength, though I’d say I have mild interest rather than a burning desire to uncover the truth.

It’s fine, just riddled with questionable design choices. Very much a one-and-done game.

EDIT - Also, and this shouldn't be as big a deal as I'm finding it, but the incessant whistling from the soldiers is seriously annoying.

It's a game that clearly shows the limits of it's budget. I have found the exploration and general mystery to be rather compelling and have enjoyed discovering new stuff and slowly unlocking new parts of the institute. I do think it would have been a better game if they had scrapped the combat and made it about avoiding enemies although maybe that would have had its own issues.

It reminds me a lot of The Good Life, a game by Swery65 that is set in a northern English village and has a similar mystery that you are investigating. Also, like Atomfall, it had issues because of the smaller budget.
