New gameplay trailer out of QuakeCon...

Urgh; I really want to get excited by this, but it just feels like it's trying too hard to be "insane" while taking itself a bit too seriously. That's an awful trailer too, particularly when you compare it to Doom: Eternal from the same conference - it's nothing but quick cuts to try and show off something "cool", while Doom's was effortless, continuous gameplay.

Maybe that's for the best. The ending in the first one was hardly stellar.

Or memorable it would seem.

Something about jumping around in a steampunky room of some kind...

I actually quite enjoyed the first one as it goes, but probably still wouldn't jump on this unless it came down to fairly cheap in price.

The theme to the first one was good, the art style as well but it was just so forgettable an experience that I can't even recall the ending to it. Goodmans voice at the start and the plague of issues with the engine is whats stuck in my head.

This I'll think I'll watch some others play it on Twitch or Youtube instead or on a cheap sale at some point.

It felt like a tech demo to me in many ways. Like you say mate all very forgettable on the whole.

Not even sure I'd look at the sequel without some serious good reviews backing it.

Can't believe they're actually making this after the flop of the first. I never actually played it though. Did that fancy ID tech ever get properly used?

iD tech 5 was used in Wolfenstein: The New Order and OId Blood, and The Evil Within. A version of it was used for Dishonoured 2 and Death of the Outsider.

I vaguely remember there being some fancy texture technology that they ended up dialling back.

I actually quite fancy this, it looks like a total riot.

The first game was fine, but also pretty forgettable and the driving was pretty pish.

RAGE 2 is being stuck on the Bethesda client only. Doom will be the same I reckon.
