Battlefield V [PC, PS4, XBone] - V is for Victory

Post by Jez » Thu Aug 16, 2018 4:05 pm

Latest video from one of my favourite YouTubers Westie.

Looks great I've already preordered personally. After BF1 I think this has much to live up to.

Battlefield I is currently £4.37 on Origin btw, think I might pick that up.

I wasn't really expecting to get into BF1 that much when I picked it up on the cheap, but it really is an excellent shooter. The Operations mode should be the main focus of their games going forwards I think.

Seems the numbers for pre-orders for this one is way lower than expected. Not going to be helped being released between COD and Read Dead 2 either.

I'd love to think that perhaps people are waking up to EA's shit given what happened with Battlefront 2. I'd love to. But I don't, it'll be something else, won't it.

I'd totally agree with the Battlefront 2 idiocy but if totally disagree when I see how much value I got from BF1 and the DLC.

It's kind of a moot point now anyway seeing as they aren't gating any DLC behind preorders with BF V

No gated DLC probably means lootboxes in some shape or form though, which I generally try to avoid in every possible way.

They've said they will have cosmetic items for sale. Nothing stat or advantage altering. Sounds like they've learnt a lesson with Battlefront 2 in fairness.

Oh for sure it's more to do with the handling after the reveal that did the damage than anything to do with lootboxes, microtransactions.

The news about the numbers only came about after Patrick Söderlund had left. Telling your customers not to buy the game is one quick way to be booted out of your job. Just look at the fiasco with the Xbox launch.

Are you talking about Battlefront 2? Because it was very much the loot boxes and microtransactions that did the damage there. The handling of it was poor, yes, but not what caused the controversy.

I don't really recall there being any controversy about the announcement. Was it the overly glitzy trailer that showed off the female soldier with the silly claw hand that pushed people over the edge?

I was astounded at how many people were incredibly unhappy with a female character being present in their first person shooter. "It's unrealistic! Women weren't on the front lines!" they cried.

Battlefield.

Being unrealistic.

My god.

I don't get that attitude in make believey shooty shooters either. If people want that sort of realism they shouldn't be playing make believey shooty shooters.
