I had a lot of fun with the first one, 1404, but played a demo of the modern-days one and it just didn't click with me at all. Could be a return to a historical setting will reignite my interest for the series.

Yeah, I didn't even bother to attempt the demo of the futuristic one, just didn't like the look of it at all.
This looks far more interesting. Anno 1404 is the best city-builder of all time IMO.
As with Metro Exodus, anyone who has pre-purchased the game on Steam will receive it there. But unlike Metro, Anno 1800 will remain available for pre-purchase on Steam right up to the scheduled launch date: It will only be removed from Steam after that. Ubisoft also emphasized that Steam owners will receive all the same updates and new content as those who purchase it from Epic or Uplay, and that all versions will be multiplayer compatible.

I always get Anno 1404 confused with Europa 1400, which I think I picked up in a charity shop yonks back and kinda liked it.
