Stories being written after the game has started development is a lot rarer now and the writers are usually bought on-board during planing. However they often don't stay throughout development and the story can be changed later by someone else to fit the game that has been designed. When the story is good the writers have usually stayed throughout development and worked with the developers to intertwine the story and gameplay.

I would argue though that there are very few well told stories in big budget games. A lot of the best ones are in games which have very little traditional gameplay, or smaller indy titles. A lot of the stuff held up as having a good story, like the Uncharted series, doesn't actually have that great a story, it just looks better compared to a lot of the other stories in games.

It sounds like a lot of the technical issues RPS reported on have been sorted by a big patch yesterday, although JW says it's still pretty buggy compared with the other games. It may well take another couple of patches to sort the remaining issues.

Latest Nvidia drivers also clear some stuff up.

I loved the first two and they were both were very polished games but this one not so much...

It's still a good game though also I swear every fall Lara has she is always impaled on something...

Was just reading about this on PCG, apparently it's being review bombed as a result of the sale.

This is exactly why I so rarely buy games on release these days.

Steam review bombing feels like the most pointless thing.

Yep.

I can honestly say I have never purchased a game off the back of Steam reviews.

Aside from reading about more obscure indy type titles that really don't attract a bombing crowd i don't use steam reviews either.

To be honest I do look at reviews, not the scores so much but what people's criticisms of a game are. If it's something like this then obviously I ignore the negatives, but if people mention scores of bugs or aspects of gameplay I know I wouldn't enjoy, then that would influence whether or not I buy a game.
