Anthem hits alpha...

Last week, the Anthem team passed its Alpha milestone – meaning that every part of the game is in, and functioning. It’s a ton of fun to play, and full of engaging character moments and storylines. But it’s also exciting to see people around the office (and at our partner studios) grouping together for adventures in this new world we’ve created. BioWare games have always been about capturing a shared experience – whether through a party of fictional characters or other players – and somehow the idea of players being immersed together in the universe of Anthem makes the setting seem even more real.
These days the energy around the office feels a lot like it did back then on Baldur’s Gate, where the team is starting to get a sense of the magic they’ve created together and there’s a growing excitement about finally releasing it into the world. There’s a ton of work ahead, but everyone knows what they need to do and is working with a level of passion and effort that’s truly inspiring.
The team has been working incredibly hard to reach Alpha, and considering the complexity and scale of a game like Anthem, hitting this milestone on time is a tremendous achievement. So what’s next? Now that all the important pieces are in the game, we can move almost entirely to bug-fixing, testing, and tuning – which will be an incredible amount of work on a game this big. We have some really ambitious plans for launch and beyond, and we really want to get it right. We will have news soon about when you can learn more about Anthem and try it out yourself.

https://www.ea.com/games/anthem/news/anthem-vip-demo
Demo for pre-orderererers goes live on Jan 25th until 27th and nets you an exclusive in-game item for use in the full game if you give it a shot.
The rest of us plebs get the demo on Feb 1st until the 3rd and you get fuck all for your trouble other than a wee shot of the game.
The demo will include access to the Ranger Javelin and another one. Fort Tarsis will be accessible along with a few different mission types. This includes story missions and a stronghold apparently.
The demo will start players at level 10 up to level 15. Perhaps unsurprisingly your progress in the demo won’t carry over to the main game.

If this has a proper single player element then I'd be interested. I've a feeling it's just a more glossy version of Destiny thought, bahs to that pish.

Every single thing I've seen of the game suggests that it's just Destiny in different clothing. It's been pushed as a multiplayer game since the unveiling.Animalmother wrote: ↑Fri Jan 04, 2019 6:24 pmI've a feeling it's just a more glossy version of Destiny thought, bahs to that pish.

Live Services !!!!!!
Last night I played Atari's Lunar Lander with my son and my 49 year old brother. We had a blast (no pun intended). This was after we played Mario Kart 8. We had more fun with Lunar Lander. That game released in 1979.
Just saying.....

I watched a 15 minute live-stream of this yesterday. Weeell.... I say I watched it, I skipped through it so I only actually watched about one minute. That was enough for me, Snowy's formal verdict on what was shown was: It looks ballhang.

Strange example given that Mario Kart 8 is pretty far removed from the standard publisher MO of gravitating towards games as a service; in fact Mario Kart 8 is a pretty damn good game.Achtung Englander wrote: ↑Sun Jan 06, 2019 12:12 pmLive Services !!!!!!

It's things like Destiny, Division, Anthem and more recent Battlefield titles that leave me feeling totally cold nowadays. I would actually rather sit and stare into space listening to music than play Destiny 2 again, it was so mind numbingly boring.
As you can imagine, I'll likely be avoiding this one.

Yeah MK8 is great fun and nothing to do with live services. It was just a general comment that at times the more simple the game the more fun is had and that all these live services is meaningless if "fun" is not the objective.

The dialogue in it. Fuck me, it is next-level bad. Smart talking septics that sound about 12. This one is a complete pass for me. The Division 2 on the other hand I am quite interested in - for all its flaws, I have had my money's worth from the original.
