EGS meant this completely fell off my radar, haven't even bothered watching recent trailers. More than happy to wait for reviews.

I think this is a big part of why people have kind of dismissed it.

I haven't really understood the hype for this either. It looks generic as hell.
A big part of it is that it is Obsidian doing a game that is similar to Fallout NV. I can understand people being reticent but I don't think it looks generic, there are very few games out there that looks like this does. If you are taking about gameplay, I haven't seen enough to judge but what I have seen looks like the gameplay you would expect from a game like this.
And therein lies why I'm not interested. It looks exactly like what you 'expect from a game like this'. It doesn't look to be doing anything interesting at all with the gameplay.

It doesn't help that I can't stand RPG-shooters. I'd like to see a new twist on it that makes the gameplay not feel like an excruciating slog.

I pre-installed this from Game Pass, it was a surprising small 37gb. I'll have a bash at it on release and see what it's like.

Have read a couple of the reviews now, a bit of light-hearted fun, a bit by the numbers but all well done, don't expect too much and you'll have a good time seems to be the consensus.

I'll still wait for a Steam release, but expect I'll eventually pick it up.

I think it's a bit more positive than that, some really positive reviews out there. I'm looking forward to playing this on Friday.

I've read enough to know that I'll really enjoy it - honestly I was all-in as soon as one review said it was like a Firefly videogame - but it sounds like it's one where your mileage may vary depending on what expectations you have going into it. It sounds like a light-hearted, well-made romp but not genre-defining.

Was going to say I was tempted to pick up Game Pass for PC for a month or two to play this, but apparently it requires Windows 10 to play games via the service.

So that's out then.

You've got an Xbox, right? It's available on game pass there too.

I think I might leave it until the Christmas break so I can get properly stuck into it.

I just don't fancy playing this one on controller.

Fair play - I'm the same if a game involves a lot of shooting, with Fallout being a rare exception. I'll probably make an exception for this too.

Yeah, that's it really. I didn't grow up using controllers so I'm not particularly adept at using them anyway, combined with anything that requires fine aiming or motor control and it would be a nightmare.
