Cheer for that. In the preview I read it talked about spells being one time use in missions, how are you finding that side of things and how does it work exactly?
There's actually a mix, some abilities are infinite-use, some have limited uses, but in every map so far there's been a resource you can gather than grants one more use of a selected skill, while those gems I mentioned can be equipped to skills between missions to grant additional uses as well.

In the three missions I've played so far I haven't really had a problem with running out of abilities, in fact for the actual spells I generally end up with some uses left over.

Thanks, that's good to know as I was a little worried about that when I saw it in the preview.

Just started playing - it's excellent. It's instantly clicked. As much as I love XCOM 2 and other similar games, I have to say the lack of any random/percentage factors is refreshing. The result is that it feels more like chess, in the sense that you're making informed tactical choices rather than playing the odds. There's also a good range of abilities without it feeling overwhelming (at least so far) - everything is more or less self-explanatory. Very much looking forward to continuing.

Great, glad you're enjoying it as well :)

On the abilities front you get an additional one each time you level up, I think my chars are about level 7 or 8 and there's quite a wide range to choose from, but it's not unwieldy. In fact it's a bit like a swiss army knife, there's generally something in your toolbox to deal with whatever situation you're faced with. In particular I've come to love the mage character's teleport ability, it has so much utility it's almost OP.

Like you say, the whole thing it just very slick and super-easy to pick up and play.

And finished, just shy of 15 hours played. That was on easy, may go through now and do levels on higher difficulties, although for me that was a nice level of challenge while completing all objectives and not becoming too overwhelmed (I'm not someone who enjoys brutally difficult games just for the sake of it).

Remained an utter delight right up to the end. The story is so-so, but it's not really the main thing here, this is all about interesting maps, lovingly hand-designed by the devs, and being given a toybox of skills to try to achieve the objectives in the best possible way.

If I have one minor quibble it would be that I would have loved to have seen more puzzle tombs, and larger, more complex ones at that. There are four here, mainly a room or two in size and aside from the final one I didn't find them overly challenging. Hopefully they release new content at some stage, including more of these, as I'd happily pay for more.

All in all, an excellent turn-based strategy-cum-puzzle game.

I’m a fair few hours in and also thoroughly enjoying it. Easy seems about right for a first playthrough, but normal difficulty seems attainable as I frequently find myself realising how I could have done things better a few turns ago.

Also now finished - I concur that it's great all the way. Easy difficulty isn't trivial, particularly if you're going for all bonus objectives, but I'm certainly looking forward to giving it a go on normal for a real challenge. It's the sort of game where I don't mind the difficulty because it's entirely fair in everything it does - your mistakes aren't so much frustrating as illuminating.

Yeah, I started a replay on normal, have done the first five or so maps (not rushing it)... there's a noticeable increase in the difficulty, to the extent where I'm having to mentally adjust to the fact you can't hit all the bonus objectives the first time you play, and the game really is balanced about returning later when you're better levelled and equipped to mop up all the ones you missed.
