Re: Slay the Spire - spire slaying commences Jan 23rd

Fuck yeah! Finally beat the game as the Defect, after about a dozen failed attempts. I don't think my deck was as good as it has been a few times, but stacked it with cards that would keep my orbs cycling through quickly, and absolutely destroyed Deca and Donu on the final floor - I had power cards that meant lightning hit all enemies and spawned new lightning orbs whenever I took damage... basically the more they hit me the faster they killed themselves :D

New character...

The 4th character is now available in the beta branch. Beating the game and having the Defect unlocked will unlock this character. If these requirements are already met, the character will be available as soon as you start the game!

Coincidentally have been getting into this again in the past few days, and the new patch just went live, introducing a fourth character and a bunch of other stuff:

Had a bit of a play with the new character today, and it's pretty good. It may even be my favourite class to play, which is saying a lot, as I grew to really enjoy playing as the third character, the Defect.

This character utilises different stances that interact with their cards in interesting ways - for example the wrath stance doubles your attack power but also your enemies', while the calm stance gives you 2+ energy when you leave it. So, you might hop into your wrath stance if your enemy isn't attacking you in their next go and unload as much damage as you can, before exiting it so you don't take the increased damage next time.

It takes a little bit of getting used to and of the four classes it's definitely the one I would say is most advanced in terms of having to think about your turn each time and the sequence in which you lay down cards... however if you get a good build going it's very powerful. By the second floor I was curb-stomping enemies that would prove really challenging with my Defect (eg the armoured knight/healer double act :x ). My first two runs ended at the 2nd tier boss, however on the third run I made it to the end and, facing what I consider to be the hardest final boss, the Awakened, I absolutely monstered him.

Good fun, will probably be my go-to class for the foreseeable future.

I jumped on to try it and discovered I was mid way through another run that I couldn’t face giving up so ended up using the hour or so I had finishing that and not having time to try the new one ](*,)

I don’t think I like her but then I didn’t like the defect at first so it needs time.

The iOS/droid version is in Q&A now and so should be out soon. It’ll be great on an ipad, maybe a little footery on phone though not undoable. (Fantastic sentence structure Alan!).

By the way, if you like Spires and haven't checked it out already, take a look at Monster Train. Pretty excellent take on this kind of game, been very impressed with it.

Added to wish list. Too many things to play right now to justify buying another game ;)

Caved and bought The iOS version. It seems very good. The text is a little small on the non Max /plus screens even with large text enabled but it’s not unreadable. The lack of iCloud save sync sucks too but over all a very good port!
