I've not played a VtM game before, but that trailer certainly piqued my interest.

Bloodlines is probably still worth a look. It's a bit rough around the edges by today's standards of course, but thanks to the amazing community you can now download a pretty comprehensive patch, fixing a lot of the issues the original had with performance, bugs, balance, etc.

I can't imagine what someone who'd never played Bloodlines before would think of it today. The best way I can describe the experience is like eating the most delicious pie in the world, despite the fact that it also happens to be full of live scorpions. Even when it works perfectly, the combat is godawful and the UI is a hot mess, and somehow it's still one of the best RPGs ever made.

I may have just talked myself into some lovely scorpion pie.

I think that's valid. It's a scenario I've come across myself when I've finally played a much-vaunted title from the fairly distant past for the first time, and because for me it doesn't hold that nostalgia value I've failed to see what the fuss is about and been disappointed.

You could probably say the same about classics like the first Deus Ex, and it's why I no longer recommend people play what is clearly the best game ever made, Anachronox ;)

Yeah, I'm not going to dive into a game as old as the first Bloodlines without the benefit of nostalgia I'm afraid.

I think that's wise. I loved the game and have fond memories but tried a replay recently and it just didn't hold up. Without those happy memories, I suspect it would turn me off the upcoming game.

So they've booted out the previous devs and brought in another developer to finish it... that doesn't sound great, does it?

I get the impression that there were so many problems in so many different areas that they've all but wiped the slate clean. I really hope they sort it out eventually.

Less finish it and more start all over again it sounds like. There is something about this series, it's clearly cursed. :D
