I used to love going to Index when I was wee. Our store used to have a dumbwaiter that sent your orders down from upstairs. I thought it was the coolest thing ever. It blew my tiny mind.

I got my 2600 from there. Happy days.

Interesting. Given Oculus' recent announcement, the Rift S hasn't exactly been causing great excitement (spec-wise it's not much of an improvement over the original), I'm looking forward to seeing what other companies start offering.

Yup, the specs are going to be important. I really want to buy a Pimax with it's higher resolution and FOV (than the Vive) so this Index must be better than that....

I feel like I'm missing something. What are you basing that excitement on? Was there info in those links that now just seem to go to the Steam homepage?

I'm easily excited by vr stuff. I was all about the Vive pro until they announced it cost more than my car.

Realistically I'm expecting this to be a small upgrade from the, now ancient, Rift but I'll take whatever I can get at this point. I'm most interested in the new controllers so hopefully they work well.

Right, just general excitement. I thought something had been revealed that wasn't showing in those now dead links.

Yeah, the Index is looking like a solid improvement over the original Rift, making general improvements without taking anything away (I'm looking at you, Rift S' lack of your predecessor's excellent earphones). The controllers look great based on the prototypes, though I hope they have an analogue stick rather than the touchpads of the Vive. I also really don't like the original Rift's tracking system, as if you knock the cameras even slightly you have to redefine your play area and reset your viewpoint, making them unsuitable for desk use (and the need to connect them to your PC means it's difficult to place them anywhere else). The system overhead of the tracking cameras is quite high too, on many systems requiring additional USB cards, or in my case, the cameras frequently disconnecting at random during gameplay.

The vive didn’t really care how much you bashed the base stations, it would obviously throw the headset out of whack momentarily but that was it.

I’m not sure if I prefer sticks or touchpad. The touch pads are surprisingly versatile in VR.

The updated Oculus software deals with moving the sensors much better. It auto calibrates if any get shunted.
