Few more thoughts on Control. It's a good game with a few things that prevent it from being a great one. Firstly the checkpointing system means when facing off against 'bosses' there is a bit of a run back to them after you die which quickly becomes tiresome, especially as there is no peril between the checkpoint and the boss so it feels like a waste of time.

Secondly some of the weapons feel a bit off, both the shotgun and grenade launcher equivalent feel under-powered and the way the sniper works, having to hold to charge up shots is a bit too finicky. This coupled with the issues I mentioned earlier about headshots means the gun combat doesn't quite hit the heights you want, however the inclusion of the powers means combat overall is still fun to play.

Putting these aside I think the game is a technical marvel with Ray Tracing being the shining star. Between the way light casts shadows and refracts, the use of red light and the way mirrors/windows and screens look more realistic with the reflections that they cast, it really is a great showcase of what the tech can do.

The story has picked up and the incidental side stuff and world build really are excellent. Things may change between now and when I finish the game but right now if you have even a passing interest in Remedy's games and want something that shows off the new Ray Tracing tech, you should pick this game up.

Thought I'd finished Control months ago - great game - but couldn't start the DLC because I hadn't in fact finsihed the game. I got bored of the grind getting through the Hedron level. Oh well, back to it...

I was kinda interested in this but it never generated the level of wow needed for me to buy it. One for the sales I think.

It's a really good game that looks amazing and was criminally under-looked last year. Remedy managed to create a really cool world and the gameplay was pretty good with only a few missteps, well worth checking out imo.

Probably why it didn't appear on my radar.

If it comes to Game Pass at some point I'll probably give it a go.

If you have a PS4 its on PSNow which you may have a 2 week trial of. I believe it leaves the service at the end of the month though. Its a very good game.

Looking forward to the DLC. Had planned to play them a frew nights ago but it was too bloody warm to wear headphones :(

You could stream it to PC if youre a self loathing nutter ;)

Huh the Steam version is only going to be Β£30, thought 505 Games would have used the fact that it includes the DLC to keep the price high.

Got this last month (PC via Steam) and love the heck out of it. It offers such a different world and experience from what I generally play that it's a very welcome addition to my library. Boss fights feel kinda silly and anachronistic but otherwise I give this a solid Soli Thumbs-Up :ugeek:
