I've seen on-screen comparisons of Aliens bluray to 4k, and whilst it does appear to have been a bit more digitally "scrubbed" it seems to be mainly noticeable on the occasional facial shot, not as bad as True Lies and nowhere near the execrable Terminator 2 4k. I'll find out end of the month when it arrives.
I'll be interested to know what you make of it. For me, True Lies on 4k was an easy choice given that it never got a blu ray release, but my Aliens blu ray is perfectly fine so the talk of the 4k release being a less than ideal transfer gives me pause.

This video lowered my concerns. A bit.

Indeed, spoiled it for me too. The same channel did one of these for the abyss too.

Just picked up the complete X-Files boxset on blu-ray (seasons 1-11), as I'm long overdue a rewatch from the beginning. I'm stunned as to how good the restoration is - considering it's over 30 years old now, it looks like it was filmed yesterday. I can highly recommend it to anyone hankering to relive the Mulder and Scully glory days of 90s TV.

Given its age, it was probably shot on real film which could be scanned in for the Blu-Ray transfer. Slightly more-modern shows would have used digital cameras of the day so would need some kind of upscaling to look even passable at higher resolutions. 8-)

And that's the story of why I'm not allowed near pregnant women for the next few weeks.

Yeah, film's resolution potential is over 8k if given a proper transfer, but it's the quality of the restoration they've done across the entire run of the show that's really impressed me. The addition of HDR is nice too. I have some of the old DVD seasons and it's one of the best improvements I can recall.
