Well, yeah, but then you'd expect that, surely.

I have to sorta applaud them for pushing ahead with projects like this when Heath Ledger's portrayal is still pretty fresh in people's minds. I personally find it quite difficult to imagine anyone doing a better job with that dark approach to the character, when Ledger seemed to be channeling the demons that may well have killed him.

I still haven't actually bothered watching Suicide Squad, but Leto's whole appearance just looked completely wrong. I can't even pin down exactly what my issue with it was, but his face paint was more lipstick and eyeshadow than clown; he looked like a bad cosplayer. The tattoo that said "Damaged" just underneath his hairline was a bit on the nose too.

I didn't hate Leto's version - I'd even argue his performance is one of the better parts of Suicide Squad. But blimey, Joaquin Phoenix looks like he's doing something pretty damn special based on that trailer.

Yeah, one I'll definitely be keeping an eye on. I've always liked Phoenix, in fact I struggle to think of a film of his where I didn't enjoy his performance. I'd say he's an under-rated actor, but I genuinely don't know what people generally think of him (he might be extremely highly rated for all I know!). In any case, what I'm saying is of all the actors out there who would take on a role like this I think he has the chops to pull it off.

Hmm, when I think of ways to improve SS the number one thing that comes to mind is cut everything with Leto.

Phoenix is a great actor though so I’m very interested. I’m also quite the DCU apologist, so much of what they’ve done is leagues ahead of Marvel it’s just the bad is realllllly bad! SS has few redeeming features.

Yeah, I highly rate Phoenix. Commodus in Gladiator is for me what turns a good film into a great film (along with Oliver Reed).

Cant argue with that! Like I said, llllow llllllllow lows. Bafflingly awful choices. BvS is still a great watch overall, the extended cut at least. The courthouse scene alone I thought was one of the best visuals in any comic book movie.

I quite enjoyed Batman v Superman, but every other DCEU film has left me cold. I just *hate* the visual style, the CGI they've used in the ones I've watched (which may only be Wonder Woman now that I think about it) is so awful that it genuinely detracts from all of the action scenes.
