I have only watched the first episode so far and I can't say I have noticed a difference, but then it has been about four years since I watched season 3...Mantis wrote: ↑Mon Aug 13, 2018 10:41 pmI felt like the quality dropped a lot between seasons 3 and 4. It felt like it was trying too hard and lost a lot of the charm of the earlier seasons where he wasn't being thrown into quite so many utterly ridiculous situations. Now he just casually solves his way through these utterly impractical scenarios as if they were so obvious where the earlier stuff at least felt like it had some sort of logic to his genius analyses.

Season 3 was a bit of a dip in form I felt, but S4 is a belter.Strudel wrote: ↑Tue Aug 14, 2018 7:56 amI finally got round to watching Peaky Blinders about a month ago and I'm now up to season 4 (which is annoyingly not on Netflix; but when does that stop anyone ¬_¬) but so far so good; it's a nice little show and at only six episodes per season it manages to fit in a nice over-aching plot for each season without getting overly convoluted.

I need to get around to watching more of that (Peaky Blinders). I only watched the first episode, sometime last year, and it did not grab my attention sufficiently to watch more. I will have another go sometime.
Snowy, did you ever watch season 3 of Borgia?

Yeah, it wasn't as good as the first two seasons but I still enjoyed it. Only two episodes into season 4 but enjoying it still.Snowy wrote: ↑Tue Aug 14, 2018 8:05 amSeason 3 was a bit of a dip in form I felt, but S4 is a belter.Strudel wrote: ↑Tue Aug 14, 2018 7:56 amI finally got round to watching Peaky Blinders about a month ago and I'm now up to season 4 (which is annoyingly not on Netflix; but when does that stop anyone ¬_¬) but so far so good; it's a nice little show and at only six episodes per season it manages to fit in a nice over-aching plot for each season without getting overly convoluted.

For me BB is better but for different reason and theres not much between them in terms of enjoymeny. BB is Very similar in how it "feels" to Saul but the stories within the show for the most are very well told.

As young Gibby has reminded me in another thread you should all probably be watching The Americans if you have the chance. It's aces!
Sadly the best kept secret on the telly imo. It's on Prime if you have it. It's well worth your time.

Hey, has anyone watched Knightfall?
Some kind of medieval/Templar drama. Looks like my kind of thing. Just heard that Mark Hamill is going to appear in the second season too, which is cool.
I will probably buy it on Amazon video at the end of the month.

Finished the second episode tonight and I'm still not perceiving a drop in quality. Actually I dare say it's even improved on what was already great before.

Really? Perhaps I need to rewatch that season to give it another chance. My initial reaction was very strongly along the lines of "I can't believe they've done this!" but now I can't even remember the details of why.

I haven't really detected a dramatic change in anything; it just seems like "more Sherlock" at the very worst. Nothing's standing out as obviously inferior to former seasons.

For me, I only thought episodes 1 & 3 of series 1 were great. It all just got too knowingly quirky and self-conscious after that for my taste.

Right, I just finished Season 4 (I forgot they only had three episodes per season). That last episode was flipping awful! The ultimate "We're out of ideas!" spectacle. I really think they need to bring it all to an end there.

Re: Good TV (aka, the TV series spamthread), the second series
Perhaps that was what turned me off the show. Though now I've thought about it a bit, I do have a distinct memory of Mycroft Holmes skulking around his manor house trying to get away from an evil clown. I forget which episode that was, but that was definitely a point where I began to wonder what the show was becoming. I get the feeling that Mark Gatiss couldn't resist writing himself into even bigger parts every season. He definitely didn't help that final episode where they're solving all the traps set by their sister.
