You're wrong, Alan. Flight of the Navigator is a perfect film, and is all about a kid.

Also, Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore were brilliant and went a long way in making ET the classic film it is.

Yeah, terrible (and/or really irritating) child actors can put a downer on some films. But I guess the same can probably be said of plenty of adult actors.

Another example of a great kid film: The Neverending Story.

Doctor Sleep

Could have been much worse. The start is very rushed. Other than Rose we don’t really get to know any of the True, not even Andy or Crow. The last 15 mins are bad fan service but I did enjoy it. It really is something that would have benefited greatly from being a TV series.

Dolemite Is My Name

Superb fun and a lovely ending. Snipes and Murphy are back.

The King

I thought this was fantastic. The soundtrack in particular was sublime and Timothee Chalamet and Joel Edgerton were brilliant in their parts.

Mary Queen of Scots

It doesn't matter how many times this story is adapted for the screen, or how good the acting or cinematography is, it is a terrible story. The story about a very foolish girl, who played her hand extremely badly throughout her whole career, and ultimately reaped what she sowed.

However, her son did radically change the course of British history, so there's that in her favour.

I have to admit, the last time I saw this story adapted to screen, it was the final season of the cheesy Netflix show, Reign, which in all honesty was far more entertaining than this!

Of the two films I've watched in the last 48 hours about impetuous young British monarchs, The King was much better, I thought.

Spiderman: Far From Home

Finally got round to seeing this. Given that Homecoming is one of my favourite MCU films, I'm fairly disappointed at how mediocre FFH is. It could have been an interesting take on Mysterio, but the result was plain silly and doesn't hold up well under scrutiny.
Spoiler
I like that Mysterio is the leader of a bunch of ex-Stark employees who Tony indirectly pissed off - it's a good opposite to the positive legacy that Tony leaves Peter. But their plan makes no sense. Did Mysterio never watch The Incredibles? Because he's basically a stupider version of Syndrome. Let's assume his plan worked and he successfully fooled the world into believing he was the greatest superhero, foiling terrible threats to humanity. Great! What's the next step? Uh... gold? A Netflix deal? Who knows. The film certainly doesn't.

This is so easily fixable. Mysterio and his cronies hate Stark. They conned Spiderman into giving them access to all Stark's stuff. Why not just use Stark's stuff to visibly cause a bunch of atrocities, thereby ruining his name? It's not like they have any concerns about collateral damage.

It's so close to being a good film. All the character work is great - it's the dumb plot that lets it down.
I'd put this down near the bottom of the MCU list, probably just above Iron Man 3 (which had an even stupider villain).

Aladdin (2019)

Good fucking grief, this is a travesty. It’s devoid of any of the animated film’s charm, it doesn’t seem to remotely understand the characters, the pacing and comic timing is totally wrong, the songs have been butchered and the actors all forgot to act. The best performance is from the carpet.

Irredeemable shite.
