I Just Watched (Films)
Re: I Just Watched (Films)
Spiderman - Far From Home - There are now two Crowning Moments of Awesome in the MCU; Thor's appearance during the battle of Wakanda in Infinity War, and the casting decision made for the mid-credits sequence in Far From Home. Nothing else has made me grin quite so much.
It's not as good as the first MCU Spiderman, but it's a decent film if you don't mind teen drama being a driving force.
Also, I have absolutely no idea what the post-credits sequence means.

I am reliably informed that the post-credits scene was something to do with Captain Marvel, which I also haven't seen yet.

Terminator Dark Fate
Following in the grand tradition of Terminator sequels it was a needless and unasked for effort (apart from T2 obviously). Not the worst film but not exactly great either. The effects range from pretty good to fuck awful in places, the bigger the budget the worse the effects seem to get. Watch it once for the sake of it and forget.

I can't decide if Dark Fate is worth recommending solely on the basis of

The evil terminator probably inflicts the highest body count since the first film, he fairly depleted the US border patrol anyway.

That was very good I must say. I can't even imagine how they must of filmed some of the scenes.

Jojo Rabbit
Really enjoyed that, one of those that alternates laughs and surreality with emotional gut-punches. Taika Waititi is one of the most interesting filmmakers out there currently imho.

The Invisible Man
Was expecting a poor Hollow Man rip off but was very pleasantly surprised.

Cinema
Dark Waters
It’s very good, very interesting but a bit dry. Definitely worth watching and I wouldn’t say it’s baggy or over long it’s just hard to give pizzazz to a guy sorting a million sheets of paper.
Emma
Perfect casting, everyone is superb especially Bill Nighy. It lost me in the past 20 or so mins and I don’t think it concludes well but that’s probably the novels fault?
The Invisible Man
A very well made piece of crap. Moss is great, she’s such a fantastic face actor but man this movie is dumb rubbish.
Call Of The Wild
Hated it. The cgi dog looks like shit which matches the rest.
Doolittle
RDJrs welsh accent was the most entertaining thing. I like the idea of it being very fantastical but it didn’t work for me.

You Were Never Really Here
I feel this was talked up too much and I ended up feeling a bit indifferent. It’s good but I wouldn’t say it’s a classic or anything. I expected better because of the praise.
Polar
I quite enjoyed this. Mads Mik is a retiring assassin and his employer is trying to kill him to avoid paying his pension. It’s daft but it’s fun.
Robocop
So the gf thought she had seen this but just realised she hadn’t!
Fixed!
She loved It. I loved it.
It’s still a 100% perfect movie.

Polar is a hoot, gratuitous violence mixed with ridiculous camp.

Le Mepris (1963)
I have been following the excellent Sky Arts show about great film composers and it has introduced me to a lot of films I want to see. One is called Le Mepris (aka Contempt). This my first Jean Luc Godard film. It was really odd and French. Strangely compelling, shit and excellent all at the same time. It is beautifully shot (the colours and style of the film are great) and my god I can see why Brigitte Bardot was considered a sex bomb. One of the most beautiful woman I have seen and as a huge plus she is naked in a lot of scenes. I think Godard was in love with her body. The music is probably the second best bit of the film.
