Spoiler
I can't really argue with any of those criticisms (save one), suffice it to say I didn't find them problematic. Any time travel plot requires some level of acceptance that it won't make 100% sense from every angle, and I found Endgame's internal logic consistent enough (aside from the very end with Cap, but when you weigh that against the fact that he got his dance, I really couldn't care less about the specifics of how he got there). I did find it amusing that Tony figures out time travel in approximately 5 seconds, though, and the film does gloss over that.

The one thing I will quibble is Scarlett Witch, because given her displays of extreme power in previous films I wasn't at all surprised that she could go toe to toe with non-gauntlet Thanos. Remember when she entered the battlefield in Infinity War and annihilated half an army with their own weapons in a few seconds? Yeah, in MCU power terms she is up there with the top-tier, and I'm glad Endgame gave her the chance to strut.

I'm going this weekend and I hope it is better than the mess that was Infinity War.

Endgame made $350 million in the US over the weekend. That's an immense amount, particularly when you consider that the biggest ever US cinema weekend before that generated $314 million in totality across all films on release and this is a three hour film.

Over 10% of the US population basically saw this film at the weekend. Mental.

Is Cap Marvel "required watching" before seeing Endgame??
Unsure if I can be fucked to go to cinema twice while I'm in London for the week :)

Not essential, but still worth a watch.

My local is only showing three other films at the moment, every other screen is for Endgame.

I rewatched it recently and found it a little better on the second viewing but there's just so many super heroes - they're everywhere. I also get annoyed at how they're all equally super. Hulk would marmelise Captain America - yet he's shrugging of hits from a Thanos who hammered the Hulk - this inconsistency is everywhere.

Yes it's a super hero movie but there has to be a little consistency.

Spoiler
Thanos had the power stone when he pummelled the Hulk in Infinity War, but he doesn't in Endgame, plus in Endgame Cap is granted the power of Thor for being worthy, so it's not that surprising that he can fight Thanos. In Infinity War when Cap fights Thanos, I took it that Thanos was so untroubled by Cap's struggles that he just watches in surprise for a few seconds before swatting him away. If he'd wanted to squish him (or any of the other Avengers save perhaps Thor) he could have done, but that's not really what he's trying to do. He wants to kill half the universe for a specific purpose - he has no interest in murdering people he doesn't see as a threat. He even tells Tony that he respects him, and leaves without killing him.
On a separate note, I read something interesting about some Endgame foreshadowing that goes right back to Iron Man and continues throughout the MCU:
Spoiler
Tony has had problems with his left arm in (I think) every MCU film he's appeared in. I'd never noticed until it was flagged up, but it's there. He consistently takes severe damage to his left arm, rubs and massages it like it's bothering him and in Civil War he outright says that his left arm is numb (coincidentally it also gets injured and put in a sling later in the film).

Tony uses his left arm to perform the snap at the end.

Whether this is an easter egg or something more, I don't know, but there's an idea I like that suggests the snap - which severely damaged Thanos' and Hulk's left arms - sends a shockwave of pain throughout Tony's timeline. Not sure how well it stands up to scrutiny given that at least some of his arm pain can be attributed to damage taken in fights, but it's an intriguing titbit nevertheless.

Avengers End Game.
I kind of enjoyed that. I think more than any of the other serious business Marvel films and definately more than Infinity War. I did feel the middle section was a bit bloated and they really have no baseline power level for what Danvers can do but what can you do? The finale was pretty cool.
Spoiler
Kind of happy to see the back of Cap, one of the worst characters. Fat Thor steals the show.

Quickfires

Dumbo
Drab colour pallette makes what was a fairly standard retelling more drab.

Pet Sematary
I dont believe I'm saying this but John Lithgow has nothing on Fred Gwynne. As far as Jeb goes Fred was perfect. The original is much better but its not the worst remake even if the end is a bit unsatisfying.

Hellboy (2019)
Pretty shitty.

Wild Rose
Same problem I have with Cleaning Up in that I just hate the main character. Shes a selfish twat and never learns. Julie Walters is great and her character was the only rock the story had till they make her a complete imbecile in the last act. Also at one point she runs from a pub to her home in under 20mins that would barley be possible in a car ¬_¬

Greta
That was decent. Usual folk doing stupid things instead of obvious things (the PI especially!) but overall a decent horrorythriller thing.

Red Joan
Claims to be based on a true story but really isnt its just boring spy fiction thats utterly uninspired.

The Curse Of La Llorona
The most evil and powerful ghost in the world spends 90mins jumping out of curtains instead of doing any of the stuff she apparently wants to do. First 15mins are good the rest is bad.

Long Shot
God help me I laughed a fair few times at this. I expected it to be awful but it actually wasnt...... too awful. For a Seth Rogan joint it was watchable.

The Hussle
Utter fucking gash. Rebel Wilson is so unfunny its painful. The entire gag for most of the film is "LOOK AT REBEL, SHES A FAT PERSON!".
I used to be eVoL but I got better.
I like everything now.

Bad Times at the El Royale

This starts quite well but soon falls apart and is rather boring and overly long. Chris Helmsworth's American accent is something.

Enter the Spiderverse

Great film with some amazing visuals and music that go together really well. Easily the best Spiderman film I've ever watched and also one of the best superhero films I've watched, very up for some more.

Snow Piercer

I watched this on a recommendation from my girlfriend's daughter...I now have to judge anything she ever recommends again..
It's recently just turned up on Netflix.

I can kind of see what they were aiming for (not read the comic behind it) but the writing just sucked. In fact the plot was pretty see through.

Basically a large train is the only thing on earth following an enormous track that circles the whole world and just happens to take a whole year to complete. I don't think it's ever explained why it was built (i did kinda nod off near the end) but let's just say it was an eccentric inventor.

There appears to be two classes on the train. The tailers (tail end of the train, lower class) and the other ones (can't remember what they're called but basically the upper class.

However, the lower class want a better life.. chaos ensues.
Spoiler
  • It's never explained just how everyone got on board and why there's so few.
  • It's never explained how the tracks are maintained over two decades of extreme blizzardy weather
  • The train appears to be tiny. It literally is just a train. How is a civilization supposed to have evolved there (the new class system)?
  • One carriage has nothing but bodyguards. Standing there. No living quarters for them. Who feeds and looks after them?
  • No-one does any work. Upper or lower class.
  • We find out the lowers started eating each other and Capt America even says 'we found out babies taste better' without any wincing but then they all moan that they got given cockroach blocks to eat... but that's better than humans right?
  • Near the ned an Asian character goes into monologue mode...with no transalation. I felt he was explaining a lot but the audience has no idea what he's saying. Most of the rest of the film there's an electronic device that translates but not for this monologue
Gah, I should be more angry but there were some fun bits. I had fun making up my own theories about what was happening.

Can't believe it's got a 7 on IMDB.

They spend a few minutes explaining what happened to the world and why they are using a train at the start, there are also sections in the school where they explain that a bit more.

I think it's a really good film and some of the acting is great, it reminds me a lot of something like Total Recall.

I remember enjoying it enough when I saw it ages ago.
Definitely a 6 - 7 out of 10 film.
