Once ...Hollywood

It’s overly long self indulgent wank.
So like almost all his films then.

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood

5/10

This film has probably some of the best set designs I have ever seen. Whole streets are made to look like 1969, its stunning. The costumes, the acting and the cinematography are all superb. The "The Great Escape" scene is probably one of the best things I have seen on film this year. I loved that segment. I also liked Damian Lewis as Steve McQueen. A pretty good impersonation imo.

Tarantino can do suspense very well as I am thinking here of the scene with Brad Pitt at the farm. That is a masterclass in suspense but the problem with the film and its a huge problem - the story is practically non existent and the plot is utterly nonsensical.
Spoiler
Nonsensical in that the film is a spin on the Mansion murder, presented in the last 30 min of the film with all the count downs and timings splashed on screen leading you to believe this is based on actual events only to find it is not. It essentially becomes a "what-if" parallel universe take on the murders - thus making the build up kind of pointless because what we are seeing is a work of fiction, so basing it on facts of timing is utterly pointless because ultimately - who cares - its a work of fiction. Also the fact it took practically 2 hours to get to this point with almost all the focus on a factional actor and his stunt double beggars belief. There is no story here.
The comedy is good, I suppose, and the foot fetish stuff did not bother me but it was pretty obvious that Tarantino has a major fetish here and would like the world to know. I just cannot get over the fact the film was much to do about nothing. There are whole scenes that last minutes at a time of people driving. I think the driving scenes alone added up to about 15 minutes.

It is hard to think why this film was made except for the fact it is a love note to Hollywood from one of its auteurs.

I think that’s a pretty massive spoiler in there which makes the film lose 99% of its impact.

trust me on this - I have saved you 2.5 hours. NOTHING HAPPENS except 2 scenes and both are in the last 1/3 of the film

You couldn't just put it in spoiler tags to let people decide that for themselves?

Added a spoiler tag to AE's post as I know there are some people here, like MM, who are looking forward to seeing this and presumably want to go in without plot spoilers.

There's not much I look forward to in life these days

...this statement made me sad. Why is [the above] the case?

Ach I was probably being a bit overdramatic, although I'm sure there's a grain of truth in there, but please don't be sad. :)

Things are just the same old same old, like it is for most people I'd imagine. Nothing much really changes, same stuff day in day out. We don't often get the chance to go out, so when the opportunity arises I tend to get quite excited. I'm easily pleased and even more easily annoyed when things don't go to plan it would seem.

No need to panic I'm not reaching for the Samaritans just yet. :D

Angel Has Fallen
Oh man. The most stupid bad guy reasoning in the history of stupid bad guy reasoning! There was absolutely zero chance of them succeeding! Some CG to rival Knightmare. Really fucking awful! Surprised?

All of those 'have fallen' films are so bad.

The next one should be 'Profits Have Fallen'.
