Saw a clip of The Boys on YouTube the other day. Definitely not my thing. [-(
Between tedium and fright
Such is the song of the nether world
The hissing of rats
And the jarring chants of angels

Horses for courses - but what made you so certain, out of interest?

But I have watched the first two episodes of Dark Crystal and am really enjoying it. Its production values are spectacular.
I watched the film for the first time a few years ago and struggled with it, which is unusual because 80s fantasy is my jam and I generally love Jim Henson stuff. The whole thing weirded me out, though I have to give it due credit for intentional creepiness. I'll give the TV show a watch because it's something I want to enjoy and feel I should enjoy, but I'm not sure I'll be able to stick with it.
My advice would be to watch at least the first two before making a decision on it. The first episode throws a lot at you and I suspect many that lack the nostalgia for the first film, and thus be more tolerant of it, may bounce straight off.

However, by the second episode things aren't moving quite as fast and the various plotlines become more intriguing. There's also a new character introduced in the second one who's pretty amusing.

Too dark/"adult" for my tastes.

Almost certainly true, it's pretty dark and violent so if that's not something that appeals to you then you really won't like it.

Yeah, it deals with some pretty messed up stuff!

Still, I found it less distressing than the enslavement of a creepy puppet world by evil magic space vultures in the Dark Crystal.

It doesn’t deal with any of it well, it just drops dark things to be edgy without earning it and it never feels consistent. It’s fine but also a bit shit.

I think it does earn it. The darkest aspects are a result of superheroes being commercialised and politicised and ground down by the morally bankrupt institutions they represent, all of which is explored and demonstrated throughout the series.

Just because it does things doesn’t mean it dies them well enough to earn it. It feels like it wants to be a comedy then it sprinkles in some edge. The highjacked jet for example, I wasn’t sure if it was playing for laughs, feels or character development and since it didn’t deliver on any of those (except Queen had a few seconds of poignantly looking into the distance) and just left me feeling nothing. I’m sure she probably has a change of heart in the finale but I just can’t bring myself to care because the characters are just so pointlessly thin.

But I’m glad you’re not a jaded monster like me and enjoyed it ;)

I’m completely a jaded monster but I do still enjoy things from time to time.

I took a quick look at the railer for Carnival Row. I am staggered by how utterly bland and boring it looks. :?

Finished Mindhunter season 2 last night.
Considering how much of a Peaky Blinders fan I am, I found myself drawn to watching Mindhunter first, it's substantially more compelling than the latest season of Peaky's.

Well, bear in mind I've not actually watched it. I based my thorough and well-informed critical analysis entirely on watching the first half of the trailer. ¬_¬

Reviews are pretty mixed... albeit on a spectrum between 'it's alright, I guess' to 'this is terrible'.

Shan't say I'll be bothering with it any time soon.
