It's one of the best things on TV currently imho.

Yeah, I started watching recently (now caught up) and it's superb. It's one of those where I'm glad I put some trust in it at the start that it knew what it was doing, because it really pays off.

It starts strong and then loses it's way a bit in series 3 I think. It's starting to find it's feet again now but I worry that they will try to stretch it out when I'm not sure it has longevity.

Luther

Man this season seems bad. Last season was pretty bad but two eps in to this one and were kind of losing interest. Everything about it feels low quality, even the sets have a certain some mother do ave em feel to them. Frank would not be out of place in Luther’s home. Even Idris action feels like he can’t be arsed and this is some contractual obligation.

Conversations with a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes

Fascinating four-part documentary. In the 80s, when he was sitting on Death Row, arguably the most infamous serial killer in US history requested that he be interviewed by a journalist, and over the course of several years they collated around 100 hours of recordings. This series features a bunch of that footage, including the story of his early life, crimes and subsequent capture, trial and eventual confession, old footage from the 70s and 80s and modern-day interviews with some of the people involved with his case (and one woman who survived one of his attacks).

I don't want to give away too much in case people aren't already aware of elements of his story, suffice to say that he's atypical of what you would imagine a serial killer to be, charming, eloquent, educated, of above-average intelligence and involved in politics, qualities that helped him evade capture for a long time. He helped inspire Silence of the Lambs, in terms of parts of his MO and the way he worked with the FBI from prison to help shape the way they profiled serial killers, which wasn't something that was previously recognised in the US, and helped capture at least one other through doing so.

Well worth a watch.

Tidying Up with Marie Kondo

Marie Kondo is great, but her ethos of only keeping things that bring you joy is hilariously impractical. Not gonna need that joyless kettle and toaster anymore! And I guess Schindler’s List is going in the bin. I’m emotionally indifferent to my birth certificate, so that’ll be going on eBay along with my house deeds.

Oh, and I must remember to thank the house too.

Titans

The "mature" DC universe show is now on Netflix. Had a look at first episode, was alright. The fisticuffs isn't a patch on those in Daredevil or the brutal skull smashing of Punisher. I'll have a look at a few more and see if it's worth sticking with.

The whole idea of thanking things and trying to tap into their energy is part of Shinto culture isn't it? I don't believe in the spiritual side, but the idea of it is quite interesting from the limited bits I've read.

There's an episode where she talks about miscellaneous important documents (like birth certificates) too and she doesn't advocate throwing them away. There are bits of her method I don't really agree with, but some parts are quite beneficial; my clothes are all folded like a pro now. ¬_¬

I also quite enjoy watching her show just because it's funny seeing how mental and neurotic the people on it are, the wife in the first episode looked like she was on the verge of a minor breakdown before she arrived.

Alexa gets so much four-letter abuse that she just does as she is told now and doesn't even tell me I am being rude...

It feels slightly premature to be recommending this, as we've only watched the first episode as of last night, but as we enjoyed it so much, and as it's been scoring 9s and 10s across the board from viewers (some of whom seem to be saying it's arguably Netflix's best production to date), I shall do so regardless.

So, we started watching Kingdom on Netflix, as the first episode was very promising. It's been likened to Game of Thrones, but from what I can gather it's not a fantasy as such, being set in medieval Korea (I haven't looked up the various place-names to see if they're real), but an apparent $1.7m per episode budget it certainly has similarly high production values.

I won't spoil too much, frankly having gone in blind and only watched the first episode I've no idea where it's going, but suffice to say that a king is gravely ill, presumed by many to be dead, while a monster is seen to be roaming the halls of the palace and at least one person has been mauled to death inside. Soon, what seems to be a dreadful infection begins to spread while the king's son sets off on a mission to find out the truth about what happened to his father. It's basically pretty apparent in the show synopsis so I'm not really spoiling anything when I say it's medieval Korean zombies

There's lots of political intrigue interspersed with gore and horror elements... we mainly started watching it as it seemed to have what it takes to capture both mine and my wife's interest, and fwiw we enjoyed it and will be continuing to watch it. It is in Korean and subtitled, but you honestly stop noticing that after a short time.

The first episode was a little slow in the middle as it was obviously setting up a lot of story elements, political machinations etc, but things started to really kick off in the last act.

I was going to have a look at that but then decided that I was sick of zombies. Might have to rethink that now.

It's definitely something a little different in the genre, from what I've seen so far anyway.

Kingdom

Watched the first couple of episodes and it's pretty good alright. Bit on the slow side and the acting in places isn't great but it doesn't take from it. Looking forward to watching the rest.

We watched the second last night, and it's upping the stakes nicely. Looking forward to the next one tonight. Shame there's only 6 episodes though, and probably a longish wait until the next season.
