Killing the informant at the start...

Thought that was a simple case of the guy having a broken arm and being trapped with no way out and stormtroopers bearing down. Didn't he simply kill him because he didn't want him divulging the information to the empire? That's what I got from it.

As for the squid thing. That made sense too, it's a lie detector right...a great big biological one. It fucks your mind a little if you are telling the truth and if you're lying it fucks it a lot. That's what I took from that. Maybe it's a bit OTT but that's ok, it's sci fi.

The squid thing is quite clearly described as "It'll find out if you're lying or not, but either way you're fucked".

Which then doesn't happen and he just has a bit of a headache for five minutes.

Regardless of the intricacies of the squid plot device I think we can probably all agree that it was absolutely ridiculous, weirdly out of place and utterly unnecessary. A lot of the scenes in this movie with Space Che drag the plot down in how badly thought out or just plain badly written they are.

The fact that the guy quite clearly had an axe to grind with the Empire and went to great lengths to protect himself only to just decide "Nah, you go ahead, I'll just stay here and die" is the stupidest part of that scenario. I still like this movie, primarily for the finale, but it is plain to see where it had production issues from the way the early plot is quite haphazardly glued together. If they'd had a bit more time to sort out the character development I think it would have stood up much better to analysis.

Actually yeah, I’d concede that the squid thing is shit.

That tree one is probably the worst film I have ever seen. Can't even remember its name.
Between tedium and fright
Such is the song of the nether world
The hissing of rats
And the jarring chants of angels

No, it was the one where trees and plants aggressively turn on humans by making them commit suicide. Total garbage.

The Village was ok.

The trees one was The Happening (with a hilarious performance by Mark Wahlberg).

Unbreakable and The Sixth Sense were both good imho.

Urgh! Even the title is terrible.

The only MKS film I liked (at the time) was Signs.

But that was then, when I was a wannabe film student. Now I think they are all awful.

I still have a soft spot for Signs, if only for the TV reveal which is very creepy.
