Ghostbusters 3 trailer. It looks utterly shit.

Eh.

I tell you what, though. It'll be 1000% better than the last one.

I hope so, but at least the last one didn’t take itself seriously, even if the comedy was a total failure. This trailer presents itself as a bit po-faced. I’d have no clue it was meant to be a Ghostbusters film if not for the various items like Ecto 1 and the trap being paraded around as if they provide any substance.

Maybe it’s just a bad trailer. I’m willing to bet it’s not just that, though.

I don't actually mind the premise though of a next generation type thing, as the previous actors just wouldn't be up to it now (or are dead). I see Bill Murray is in it somewhere though.

I'll reserve judgement I think.

If they're going to call this Ghostbusters 3, it needs to have that same level of humour and irreverence that the originals did. It looks like it completely misses the mark. Say what you will about the all-female reboot from a few years back (was that a reboot? Did anyone even know?), at least they got the tone of the film right even if the end product wasn't to everyone's tastes.

The premise of having a next gen is fine. What bothers me is the implied tone of awed reverence that we’re meant to have at the reveal of all the hallowed artefacts of nostalgia, when actually they should just get on with the damn film and let it stand on its own feet. It’s the same problem with all these remakes - the shot of Ecto 1 being unveiled is depressingly similar to Jurassic World’s reveal of the Jeep from the old park. The trap is probably going to get some pointless exposition from Paul Rudd about what it is and how it works (probably with some grumpy correction from Dan Akroyd later on), when actually the original Ghostbusters never offered any explanation - they just showed it in action.

The most troubling problem with the trailer, though, as Raid says, is the absence of any comedy. Any at all. Is it a serious paranormal sci-fi film now?

I mean, the film really could be shit. I'm just saying it's hard to glean much from a trailer - these things are often put together by people who haven't seen the film in its entirety and may not even really know what the hell it is.

I'll wait for the reviews. If it's shit I just won't bother.

Very disappointed that when the garage door opened the classic theme music didn't start up.
Between tedium and fright
Such is the song of the nether world
The hissing of rats
And the jarring chants of angels

I get the feeling the 80s synths wouldn't fit in with the dramatic 2020s presentation, despite the fact that they're trying to sell it on nostalgia.

Meh. It could be that they're just not showing any of the comedic elements, but if they're seriously trying to make Ghostbusters into another po-faced action film they can go to hell.

It almost looks like one of those trailer edits that people make to create the impression the film is a different genre.

also....Stranger Things

In season 3 they paid homage to Ghostbusters and this film is paying lip service to Stranger Things. The dog is chasing its own tail. All based on 1 decent film made over 30 years ago ](*,)

I thought the start of the trailer was an ad for Stranger Things then skipped forward a bit only to realise it was actually the Ghostbusters trailer. I couldn't watch it for pissing myself laughing.
