I'm stuck for words this week :?

Victory was a little bittersweet as despite racking up my highest score so far with 217, it came at the expense of MM, who's been suffering the same slings and arrows of fortune that I have thus far. At least I can offer him the comfort that next week he's up against Mrs Boots who, despite my best efforts to make her team competitive, is singularly unable to put together even a single win.

Some people just can't help themselves.

Mrs MM was the most recent to benefit from my other half's selfless largesse, righting the ship after a bit of a recent wobble.

Animal's travails continue alas, this week suffering at the hands of league leader Wrathbone, who in my mind's eye is rapidly taking on the mantle of a Marvel villain. Or possibly one of those old-timey villains with a lovely handlebar 'tache they like to twirl.

Animal, I sent you a PM as well to this affect - you should really log in and sub Hazard back into your starting team. He got automatically shunted to your bench after a recent injury, but he's fit again now so as he's by far and away the best player in this year's tournament you need to get him back and scoring points for you pronto.

That concludes this public service announcement.

Balls! I thought I had you this week too Sly. It was close for a while, but then it wasnt. :(

Ah well, onwards and upwards. Hopefully next week isnt the week that Mrs Boots chooses to rise like a phoenix.

If you want a little tip - I probably mentioned this when setting up the league but worth restating now everyone's found their feet a bit... the way the auto-sub system works is if you have a player in your starting lineup who doesn't play (eg I use Oxlade-Chamberlain, who I happen to know will be injured the entire season or 99% of it), then at the end of the round it swaps them with the highest-scoring player on your bench who places in the same role (D, M or F).

So, if you start a midfielder you know is injured but have, for example, three midfielders on your bench, at the end of the round the system will pick the highest-scoring one of those three to put in your team.

You can do it for any position, but after a couple you start to get a bit short on players who will actually play, so I only do it with one or two.

Or you could just be WB and win every week regardless

:o :o

Something unbelievable occurred this week. I'm still not sure if I believe it.

But after 12 straight defeats, this week Mrs Boots notched up her very first win of the season

I think I need a lie down after that.

Mrs Boots squeaked past Animal 149 to 141 points.

Sadly MM was unable to halt Wrathbone's juggernaut, being the latest to be trampled, 168 to 182 points.

It's a close-run thing between me and Mrs MM, winning out 168 to 155 points.

Yay! Congrats Mrs Boots. Long awaited and thoroughly deserved. Bravo!

As for me I still struggle to get my head around the scoring on this site. Another week rolls by where I thought I had it in the bag only to have it cruely snatched away at the last minute. :(

I haven't looked at the teams in-depth, but it would likely be because the final match was played last night, and if WB has any Newcastle or Burnley players he'd have gotten a boost then. But don't forget that it's after the final match of the round that the Fantrax site automatically swaps out any players in your first-XI who didn't play (either through injury or whatever) for the highest-scoring player on your bench who plays in the same position.

[edit: had a look at WB's team and he has Matt Ritchie, who played last night, so that was an extra 20pts there after the game.]

For example, I keep Oxlade-Chamberlain, who will be injured the entire season, in my team each week, and have a variety of midfielders on my bench, so that once the round has finished whichever of those bench midfielders scored the most points gets automatically swapped with him into my team, and I then get their points added to my total.

That's why I tend to get a fairly sizeable - about 45 points this week - bump after the final match has been played.

Matt Ritchie is never worth 20 points, regardless of his performance. :P

I think I remember you explaining that to me before Sly, but like with most children its in one ear and out the other. It's easier for me to say its a fix. :D

They say lightning never strikes twice, but this week we saw it striking thrice, in the space of four weeks - Mrs Boots won her third match.

Last week I was the one beaten by the better half, and was too broken by the experience to comment, and this time it's the turn of Mrs MM to feel Mrs Boots' sting.

There was further woe for the house of Medicine, as I emerged the victor from my content with MM.

Animal got back on track with a win over the Wrathbone Express.

The table is starting to look interesting, as several tiers are starting to emerge: WB continues to lead the way, with a 12-point gap between him and me and MM, while Animal has now caught up with Mrs MM a further 7 points back. And then there's Mrs Boots in last place on 9 points... however she's making up ground fast!

Mrs Boots won her third game in a row - four of the last five now! :o

Shockingly I managed to beat WB as well, still 9 points behind him however.

Mrs MM also arrested her recent decline with a win over Animal.

Still lots to play for!

I see the busy festive period has mixed things up a little in fantasy land.

In all honesty I've not been paying too much attention to the goings-on on account of me being in the huff over the shockingly unfair scoring. Although it's probably my lack of understanding on how the scoring works more than anything, but I'm not going to let the facts get in the way of a good strop. :P

There are some really decent pickups in the free agent pool, but I seem to be the only one taking advantage! My recommendation is to keep an eye on your injuries, suspensions etc and make decisions accordingly.

You've been shooting up the table, though, MM! I'm level with WB now but you're only a handful of points behind.

I have been popping in for a look from time to time but no free agents really got my plums pumping. Certainly not enough to give up one of my seasoned haddies for them anyway.

Been a while since I updated on this - quite honestly I ran out of fun and engaging ways to describe the action when we're all playing each other so often!

But things have been pretty interesting for a while.

This weekend saw MM pull level with me at the top of the table on 45 points after humiliating me in our match-up, while Wrathbone, pummeled by Animal, is only 3 points behind us.

Animal himself is on a brutal 5-game winning streak having quite frankly decimated the rest of us over the past few weeks, and he's shooting up the table quickly to now sit on 39 points.

Mrs MM is only 3 points further back than Animal as well, being on a three-game winning streak herself.

Mrs Boots is at the bottom but she's been gamely plugging away since ditching that rubbish 'all Watford' strategy, and although she was most recently beaten by Mrs MM in the 'wives derby', she's at least restored some pride with 9 wins in total thus far.

Very, very tight and honestly believe this is anyone's (except Mrs Boots') ... Animal looked dead and buried a month ago but his players got their act together and the scores he's been posting since have been quite terrifying, and he's right back in this.

Also just seen in terms of player points accrued throughout the season thus far, there's less than 4 points (4433.1 to 4429.4) separating me and MM, which is astonishingly tight really.
